The Polygon Movie!

Mrs. Yollis' class has been learning all about geometry.   Last week, they learned about  the CIRCLE!

This week, the students are learning about POLYGONS!
(A polygon is a closed figure with straight lines.)

In this 2008 drama, Circle tries to get a starring role in the new movie, Polygons, but is forced to accept the fact that

A CIRCLE is NOT A POLYGON and never will be.

Don't worry, it has a happy ending!

Click here to watch the movie!

Do you have any polygons in your house?

Which shape was your favorite character?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I watched the polygon movie and I thought it was really funny how they would go sorry circle your not a polygon. Then at the end she ended up starring in another movie. Also, how the square was special.

I hope we can make a movie about something else in our class!

    Sincerely,
    Ben

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis and all polygons,

I really enjoyed the polygon movie and I almost know the whole cast because of my sister in Mrs. Coro's class. I love how the circle was trying to push its way in. I guess circle will always be happy, just like a happy face! I hope circle is successful in her new movie.

    Sincerely,
    Ava

The polygon movie brings back so many wonderful memories. It seems like I am still right there in third grade!=). Are you going to be making a polygon movie this year?

    Sincerely,

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

I really enjoyed the Polygon movie. I remember the first time I watched it in 3rd grade. I thought it was really funny how circle couldn't accept the fact that she is not a polygon. I hope circle does good in her next movie!

    Sincerely,
    Tariq

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

I love the polygon movie! It's very entertaining, amusing, and educational. I think the circle is the funniest character in the whole movie because she's trying to get into the movie when she is truly not, under any circumstances, a polygon. Good luck with your new movie, circle.

    Sincerely,
    Sadaf (Ava's big sister)

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

Did you enjoy my part as circle? In the beginning I wasn't sure if I wanted to be circle. I don't really like being the center of attention, but I decided it would be a good idea and went for it. It was exciting and super fun. I encourage your class to make a movie too, and if you do, I hope you go for the gold!

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I loved when our class did the Polygon Movie! I remember getting annoyed with myself because I had so much trouble saying 'quadrilateral'. I have to admit, I still laugh at those mistakes. Making the masks was a pleasure and so was rehearsing with the scripts.

    Sincerely,
    Rockey G. (Rectangle)

  8. Dear Polygons,

I REALLY enjoyed watching your video. It was very entertaining. I wish I was in your class, so I can make that video too. My favorite part was when the circle came and became sad because she wasn't a polygon.

    Sincerely,
    Shana (Mrs. Coro's class)

Your movie was splendid. I especially enjoyed circle and watching my friends perform. Sorry, for not making the polygon movie circle, but I hope you make the clock movie!

  11. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I loved the Polygon movie a lot! There was a lot of people that I knew from the movie. It was sad that Circle was not a polygon, but
the end had a happy ending.

Your class did a great job on the movie.

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,n

I really enjoyed your movie on polygons. Before the movie I didn't know that a figure with straight sides is a polygon. Your video taught me a lot .

Thank you so much for teaching me that.

    Sincerely,
    Gabrielle

  13. @ Ben,

I'm glad that you found this post and that you liked our movie called Polygons. It is always nice to include a little humor when you are learning something new.

Yes, we'll be making a movie!

    @ Ava,

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. Did you know the students were in the movie or were you pleasantly surprised?

I'm sure Circle will be a success in whatever she chooses to do!

    From,
    Mrs. Yollis

  14. @ Karin, (A.K.A. Shape 2)

I'm glad the movie brought back memories for you. It did me too! No, I will not be making another movie like that, I'll be doing something else. :-)

    @ Tariq,

I'm sure Circle will do well in her next movie! Thanks for watching and for commenting! :-)

    @ Sadaf,

Wow! You are an excellent writer with a fabulous vocabulary! Thank you for a superior comment! Very thoughtful! :-)

    @ Danielle (A.K.A. Circle!)

I LOVED your acting! It brings a smile to my face even today! You also wrote an excellent comment about trying something that is new. You're right, at first you feel a little nervous, but in the end...it is super fun! Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, Circle. :-)

    @ Rockey (A.K.A. Rectangle),

I loved making the movie just like you! One of the things I admire about you is that, even though you were annoyed at yourself, you kept on trying and succeeded. Great example of perseverance! Super job, Rectangle! :-)

    @ Shana,

I am REALLY glad that you enjoyed our video! I agree with you, it was so funny when Circle became sad because she found out she wasn't a polygon. Danielle is a great actress! :-)

    @ Isabel (A.K.A. as Narrator 1),

Thanks for commenting. I love watching the acting from you and Brian. Really good stuff! :-)

    @ Lee,

Thanks for a splendid comment! (You have terrific vocabulary!) I'm glad you enjoyed watching your friends. We had a fun time learning together.
    :-)

    @ Payvand,

Yes, it was sad for Circle to learn she was not a polygon. You could tell how much she wanted to be one. Thank you for commenting. :-)

    @ Gabrielle,

I'm glad you enjoyed our movie, especially because you learned that any closed figure with straight sides is a polygon!

Thanks to everyone from Mrs. Coro's class for some outstanding comments!

  15. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I saw the "Polygon Movie" today and it was a very funny movie, because Circle wanted to be in the Polygon movie. A circle is not a polygon because it does not have straight sides, but it is closed.

I never knew that there were three kinds of triangles and even more. How many triangles do you know about?

    From,
    Sydney

  16. @ Sydney,

I'm glad you liked our movie.

    It's true.
There are three types of triangles.

    1. equilateral triangle (3 equal sides/ 3 equal angles...my personal favorite.)

    2. isosceles triangle (2 equal sides/ 2 equal angles)

    3. scalene triangle (NO equal sides/ NO equal angles)

    Thanks for commenting!
    We're really learning a lot!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  17. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

The polygon movie was great. I loved how Circle wanted to be a polygon and the other actual polygons kept convcing Circle that she is not one. I'm probably going to look back on the movie that we made about the first runner up. When I'm in fifth grade.

    From,
    Gal

  19. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Making the Polygon Movie looked really fun to me!

My favorite character was Circle because she was so funny in the movie. I am glad that Circle got to be in a movie, just it's too bad she's not a polygon because she really wanted to be in the Polygon Movie.

I am not sure if I have any polygons in my house, but I will look for them when I get home.

    Your student,
    Kendall

  20. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I remember when I did the Polygon Movie! My role in the movie was the Pentagon. Whenever it was my turn to speak I always was laughing so hard I couldn't speak! It took so long for me to finally be able to say my lines without cracking up. Are you going to be making a Polygon movie this year? If you are, good luck!

    Sincerely,

    Jodie (pentagon)

  21. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

I thoroughly enjoyed your polygon movie. I actually learned some things from it. I think you guys did an awesome job pronouncing some of those words, they twist my tongue.

My name is Sheree Orso and I'm a student at the University of South Alabama in Mobile Alabama. I viewed your movie as an assignment for my edm 310 class. I'm glad that I did. You guys are amazing!

    Sincerely,
