March 3, 2010 is World Maths Day!
It is a fantastic Internet project for students.
Mrs. Yollis' class participated last year and really enjoyed the experience!
All students were given a Username and Password today so they can prepare for March 3.
Good luck!
Let us know which countries you have played against!
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI like the game World Math. In one of the games I VS 2 kids in Canada and 1 from Australia is that amazing?
Your student,
JOLLENE :)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteIt has been fun for me practicing on World Math Day. I have been playing against a girl from the United States and a boy from Australia, but I'm more comfortable with level one.
Sincerely,
Ava
@ Jollene and Ava,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you girls are liking the site. It looks fun.
Today was the opening day, so more and more kids and countries will be joining in.
From,
Mrs. Yollis
P.S. Don't play too much! Shut off the computer and go read or make a craft! :-)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI tried the World Maths Day, and it was a lot of fun because I played with people all around the world. Like Canada,Europe, and more. Did you and Panda play yet?
From,
Sydney
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWhen I was on World Maths Day I competed against Japan, Guatemala, Australia, Columbia, and many kids from the U.S.A.
World Maths Day is really fun.
Sincerely,
Ben
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWhen I was on World Maths Day I played people from Japan, Australia, Canada, and Charlie from our class. I had a lot of fun because you get to compete with other people and see how your math skills improved. Also, I went on level five and it was pretty easy for me. I hope we can do World Maths Day next year. Do you?
Sincerely,
Nick
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI just played, and I can't remember what other four eight year olds I versed from four different countries I played, but I remember that I played someone in the United States and Japan. I was so much fun, and it was that fun that I played it three times in a row! The three levels were one to three. Have you ever played it besides in class today? Did you enjoy it? If so, when?
Your student,
Kayla
@ Sydney, Ben, Nick, and Kayla,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have been enjoying the World Maths Day site. I have not been back on, but it sounds like many people are strengthening their math skills.
Do you think it was our Charlie that you played, Nick?
Let's see, the countries so far: Canada, Australia, U.S.A., Australia Canada, Australia, U.S.A., Australia, Japan, Guatemala, Australia, Columbia, U.S.A., Japan, Australia, Canada, and Japan.
According to this data, which countries are you most likely to play next?
From,
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWorld Maths Day is super fun! I tried level two, but it was a little hard so I am going to stick to level one. Also, I played kids in Australia,Canada,United Kingdom, and last but not least Unitd States.
Last year I played some people in our school, and I hope I do this year too! You said we shouldn't play so many games, so I didn't. You're right, I only played four games, but I also took a break between them.
Did Panda play any games last night?
Sincerely,
Kendall
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting back to me. Yes, I 'm sure that it was Charlie from our class because it said our school name under his name. Also, I just I competed against a person in China. When did you last go on World Maths Day?
Your student,
Nick
@ Sydney, Ben, Nick, and Kayla, and Kendall,
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled that so many of you are playing and enjoying the Internet project.
No, Panda has not been playing. He's been eating bamboo.
I saw some new countries listed, Guatemala and Columbia.
We need to get a complete list going!
From,
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteToday I played in WMD and I played against someone in Canada and Singapore. I would say that the player from Singapore was difficult to play against, but I think that I should keep practing so I can get better. Did you know that Singapore is a country? My dad and I discovered that it's the smallest nation in Southeast Asia. However it is, the fifth wealthiest country in the world!
Your student,
JOLLENE :)
P.S My sister thinks that its incredible that I am playing against someone from Singpore?
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWorld Maths Day is crazily fun! Today, I battled kids from Australia and China. I played on level four because I like when it adds a little subtraction to the game. Which teams haves you (Panda) played?
Sincerely,
Ben
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this fantastic activity! My students played today in class and it was very exciting. Mostly we played against students in the United Kingdom and the USA. Some of the students even played against each other! Other countries we played were France, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, and Canada.
I wonder if we will set a new world record this year? I predict over 600,000,000 questions will be answered on March 3rd.
Mr. Salsich
@ Jollene,
ReplyDeleteThis is your best comment ever! I can tell that you spent a lot of time writing it and proofreading it. Very well done, Jollene!
Thanks for the fun facts that you found with your dad. I looked up Singapore in World Book Kids and discovered that it is made up of one large island and over 50 smaller islands. In addition, I learned that it very crowded. That would not appeal to me because I like to live in areas that are not too crowded.
Thanks for a superior post!
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI had a lot of fun playing the math game because I got to play level 5, and level 5 is very hard. It is hard because some of the questions are like 12+27, which equals 39. When you play on level 5, what is it like like for you?
From,
Sydney
Dear Mrs.Yollis's class,
ReplyDeleteI love the World Math Day website. I have competed against people in Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom. I cant wait to challenge people in my own class! Have fun on World Math Day!
Sincerely,
Courtney (Mrs.Coro's class)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI just played again, and I versed a person in a country I didn't even know! It was Qatar. Also, I wanted to ask you what it meant when it said "Strike Out". Do you know what it means?
From,
Kayla
@ Mr. Salsich,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that your students are enjoying it. Mine are too.
I ended up loading everyone as age eight (even though some kids are nine) because they made you pick an age for the entire class. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any multiplication or division at that age. (I wrote the company and that's what they said.)
So, tomorrow I am going to reenter everyone as a nine year old.
It's exciting!
From,
Mrs. Yollis
@ Kayla,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are having fun!
You asked about the "Strike Out" feature. I think if you miss three questions, you strike out and are dropped from that game.
Does that sound right?
:-)
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteIt is fun playing different people on World Maths Day. Once, I played someone from Hong Kong. My high score is 21 points!
Your student,
Trent:-)
Dear Mrs. Yollis's Class,
ReplyDeleteAre you having fun with world math day? Have you played against other people in your class? On world math day my favorite level is level three. What is your favorite level?
~Ali P.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info from this site. My son was in level 3 yesterday and was scared of level 4 so we searched for what was up in level 4 and got some info from your site. It had subtraction in it and that was what he loved so he was very excited this morning to get into level 4. He's only six and it's his first time. So far he's done 11685, not bad for a first timer. He still has 112 games left.
Cheers from Australia!
@ Maria,
ReplyDeleteThank for reading our blog and I'm glad the comments helped your son!
Good for him for moving up in the levels. He certainly has some impressive numbers!
Thanks for commenting and I hope you come back and visit again! :-)
@ everyone,
I hope you are having fun with that last few hours of World Math Day. It was difficult today in the computer lab when we could not get in. I think that WMD site was just inundated (that's a fancy world for saying they were flooded with student players) and couldn't keep up.
I am impressed with your perseverance!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Yollis
Hi Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI just want to give you an update and thank you again for helping my six year old son. He has finished his 500 games and had a total score of 14681.
Mathletics has really helped him a lot in his mathematical skills!
Regards,
Maria
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI just want to give you another update and thank you again for helping my six year old son in the last World Math's Day event.
Well, he has just received a medal and certificate at school this week since he actually placed 9th here in Australia for his age bracket.
Cheers Mrs. Yollis
