Armed Forces. What did you learn about America's Armed Forces?

In class, we are sending holiday cards to active military personnel. Chance and Nate are in a Cub Scout Troop, and they provided the cards for the "Holiday Cards for the Troops" project.

Are any of your relatives or friends veterans?

Please tell us about them and thank them for their service to America!

    1. Dear Mr. Strange,

Thank you your kind comment! We loved having you and your wife at our classroom!

I agree that Veterans Day is a VERY special day! I remember every year going to a Veteran's Day event at our local library where I met Veterans and heard their courageous stories. I also made cards for Veterans. It was very special.

One of the questions asked above is: "Are any of your relatives or friends veterans?" Yes, I have a neighbor who is a veteran. He has great stories to share of his time spent defending our country and our freedoms.

      Sincerely,
      Chloe (Mrs. Yollis' student.)

  2. Dear Mrs Yollis,

I wanted to write this comment on Veterans Day to honor my dad, Clare's grandpa, who served our country in WWII as a radio operator in the United States Air Force. As a member of "The Greatest Generation," he was stationed in Kansas - 879th Bombardment Squadron and in Cuba during his service. Clare and I are so proud of him and what he did for his country. We wish him and all Veteran's a great Veterans Day and celebrate their service to our country.

    1. Dear Scott,

Thank you for kicking off the homage to our country's wonderful veterans. Like your father, my grandfather served in WWII. He was a member of the Merchant Marines and traveled throughout world accompanying naval ships in the oceans of the South Pacific, Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. During the war, he and my grandmother were often separated for months at a time. I am thankful for the sacrifices they both made to ensure our freedom, and so grateful for the stories they told me about their lives before they passed away.

My father is also a veteran who served in the army during the Vietnam War. My father is a excellent marksman but, due to his eyesight and the fact that he was the legal guardian to his brother, he was never deployed overseas

With gratitude and respect for all of our country's veterans,
      Jen (Allison's mom)

    Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,

Thank you so much for posting information on Veterans' Day. This is one of our greatest holidays and I am pleased that we are honoring our veterans.

Veterans were founders of our country and have helped keep us safe as well as spread justice globally. In our family, we have been blessed with grandparents and parents that have proudly served in the military.

My father fought in Vietnam. My grandfather fought in the Pacific in World War II, and most recently, Allison's uncle fought in Afghanistan and still works to keep us safe. Thank you to all that have served our country and thank you for honoring them on this blog!

    Sincerely,

    John (Allison's dad)

  5. Dear Mrs. Y♥llis,

I love Veterans Day, because we get to honor the people who fought for us.

The Veterans are people who fought for us, and went to war. Veterans day is a day to celebrate everything they did for us. I think it is really nice that they would leave there families to keep us safe.

What do you like about Veterans day?

    Best wishes,
    E♥ilyn
