  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really enjoyed helping the class with their art project today. I am always amazed at the great projects they work on and the wonderful work the boys and girls produce. This had to be one of my favorite projects I have gotten to work on with Ms. Lowy. I was stunned by all the colorful flowers the kids produced! It is always great to learn not only the technique but interesting facts about the artisits as well.

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I love that you all had art today and learned about Georgia O'keefe. Besides being famous with her flowers she painted a lot of animal bones.

Did you know that Georgia O'Keefe was responsible for bringing American style art to Europe, when it was Europe bring art to America?

I look forward to seeing your pastels up for open house.

    Thanks for sharing,

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I'm so glad you have inspiring art lessons in school! The video reminded me of a funny painting story I'd love to share: When Ben and his brother Joss were about 5 and 3, it was a rainy day and I wanted to find something new for them to do. I got out their paints and paper, and I suggested that they paint a banana. I put a banana in front of them on the table as a model. When I came back five minutes later, I was confused because their papers were blank. It took me a second to realize that they had actually painted the banana! But that was art too :)

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,

Thank you for sharing your experiences in art class. I enjoyed seeing your hands-on art work and seeing you learn about Georgia O'Keeffe. As a parent, it's great for me to see you all being exposed to the art culture. There is reportedly a Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I'm curious, has anybody visited this museum or knows someone who has?

    Sincerely,

    Young (Ethan's mom)

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

My brother told me he enjoyed the art lesson because when he saw the center of a real flower it looked like a boxing glove. Did you look close up at a flower? What did it look like?

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Georgia O' Keeffe is a very good artist because she does close ups on the flowers. The flowers that Mrs. Lowy brought in were so lovely because they had many different colors.

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really admired this art lesson that we created. My favorite part that we had to draw was the fantastic flower petals. It is amazing how they look so real once you put spray on them. I bet if the flowers were real, they would smell great!

    Mrs.Lowy,
The art that you made with the students was great! They looked like they had a lot of fun. Georgia O'Keefe believed that if you could find beauty in one thing then the world was worth living in. She often put life and death together in her paintings because one cannot exist without the other. That's why she put a cow skull with a flower sometimes. I recently learned those things and love her work too!

  18. Hello, Mrs. Yollis!

That video was very interesting. When I was little, I used to draw flowers all the time! I don't know why, but I guess it's because I didn't know what to draw. I've never actually heard of Georgia O'Keeffe. I enjoyed reading this post. =)

The art lesson you had in Mrs. Lowy's class looked amazing. I can't wait to see them in person!

I was inspired to look up more about Geogia O'Keeffe after seeing the post. I would love to take our family to see some of her art. From my internet search, it appears there are some of her pieces at the San Diego Art Museum. We'll have to go see them the next time we are down there.
