Lucky Hat Day!

This week, Mrs. Yollis' class read "The Lost and Found", a story
in our anthology by Mark Teague.

The story is about three friends who get lost in the Lost and Found bin! Their lucky hats brings them good luck at the end of the story.

* * * * *

For fun, we wore our lucky hats today!

Some lucky hats had brims.

Some lucky hats had bills or artificial flowers on them.

Some people added joker cards, stickers, and even bouncy balls!

Others added real flowers or lucky tassels!

Some lucky hats had striped or plaid brims...

One girl added giant glasses...

One person added candy and another person had a magic wand!

One student added a peacock feather! Now that's style!

Three cheers for the red, white, and blue! A very patriotic lucky hat!

Is a crown the luckiest hat? I wonder who won this odd/even math game...

We used the luck from our hats to help us make a perfect compass rose.

One student who was home, recovering from a cold, got in the spirit!
Muy bien, senior!

Even the teachers created lucky hats!

Which lucky hat did you like the best and why?

Did anything lucky happen to you because
you were wearing your lucky hat?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

It's good to have a new post up that I'm involved with!

I'll feel good looking at the post and seeing what I looked like when I was eight. Your lucky hat was crazy cool. Mine was not even close to to being as cool as yours. Boy oh boy, lucky hat day was fun!

    Ben

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Lucky hat day was extraordinary! You put a lot of effort into your hat! It is nice that added the pheasant feathers. By the way Paul won the odds and evens game! But I won without our lucky hats on but like I said before Lucky hat day was extraordinary!

    From,
    Richie :-)

  3. @Ben,
    Thanks for a great comment! (It's a 2-pointer!)

I'm glad you liked my hat! As I said in class, the hat used to belong to my grandmother. She decorated it with the artificial flowers and ribbons. My part was to add the pheasant feathers. :-)
I'm glad you enjoyed the day as much as I did.

    @Richie,
Thank you for a wonderful comment on our class blog! You have extraordinary vocabulary like Ben! :-) I like when people use high-level words!

Paul won the odds and even game once and then you won? That's a nice way to have the games end.

    Have a wonderful Labor Day!

    From,
    Mrs. Yollis

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I remember lucky hat day, and the book "The Lost and Found". My favorite memory of lucky hat day was gluing shiny purple sparkles and a buterfly (made out of pipe cleaners)on to my pink and black Disnyland hat that had my name embroidered on the back!

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

I was very excited to see a new blog post from one of my favorite blogs! I teach third grade in Connecticut and we will have a class blog this year also.

I haven't read this book to my students before, but I might have to after seeing all your dazzling and creative "lucky hats."

I will definitely share your fantastic post with my students.

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,
Three cheers for Lucky Hat Day! I really enjoyed viewing all the photos of your extremely creative hats. It is very difficult to select a favorite. However, if I must choose, I pick the patriotic hat because I love our country and its colors. I look forward to reading future posts from your class!
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Ranney

Thank you for reading our blog and leaving a comment.

You asked if Lucky Hat Day was fun. Yes, it was! We all got to play a math game about odds and evens. Many people felt that they won because they were wearing their lucky hats. Also, several students got an A+ on their spelling test.

We will visit your blog and leave a comment for you!

Congratulations on the A+ on your spelling tests. While I know you looked great in your lucky hats, I think your hard work and studying had a lot to do with your terrific test results.

    Keep up the good work!
