Rounding Video!

In class, we have been working on rounding numbers!  Here are the rules for rounding:

Radical Rounding Rules!

                   1. Underline the place value position to which you are rounding.
                         2. Draw an arrow to the neighbor on the right.
3. Write which two tens or two hundreds the number is between.
4. If the neighbor next door is 5 or more, round up, round up!
                           5. If it's not, round down!
6. Circle the correct estimate/answer.

      That was a phenomenal information post with the best cast ever. If I remember correctly the cast went like this. Tens: Chance and Ali. Hundreds: Bryce and Mia. Thousands: Peter and Sheila. Tricky one: Mrs. Yollis Samantha and Shayna. That was a great choir that was singing in the video. I used the video to watch for fun and to learn.

    This was a wonderful blog post and video on how to round numbers. My fifth graders are practicing rounding too... but for decimals! Although decimals might sound difficult or scary, the same rounding rules you showed in the video apply to decimals too! I will definitely have to show this post to my class tomorrow! Your clear explanation and catchy song will probably help them on their Friday math test!

    Keep on practicing your math skills... you will need them for 5th grade! ;)

    What is 3.99 rounded to the nearest ones?

    (hint: you can think about it as money, for example, "What is $3.99 rounded to the nearest dollar?")

    If you got that one, here's another. What is 344.81 rounded to the nearest hundred?

      That is a great comment you left for us! Thank you for the compliments. That is unusual that your fifth graders and our third graders are learning the same math skill at the same time. I will keep on practicing my rounding for next year and then the year after that, fifth grade!

      For your first question the answer is 4.00. For the next question given, I think the answer is 300.00.

    Wow! What an amazing video and post! I especially enjoyed the catchy tune! Yes it is true. Mrs. Kim is making us round decimals... It is only a little harder then regular rounding; the decimals hardly have an affect on the number. Its just like rounding with a decimal point in the number (oops I gave away the secret).
    In our class, we just learned rounding regular numbers and now we are learning how to round decimals. I always love all your posts, but this one was really great!


    P.S Random people come up to me at recess and lunch and say, "Hi Royce!" I say, "How do you know me?" and they say, "I have Mrs. Yollis" I ran into somebody at the drinking fountain by the upper lunch tables. Raise your hand if that was you! Also, I ran into Daniel in the hot lunch line! I appreciate the fame! :)

    I got one hundred percent on my quiz! I love rounding because it helps wake up my brain. Rounding is also on of my favorites because it will make me active. What is 399,648,699 rounded to the nearest ten? If you don't know millions than what is 399,998 rounded to the nearest ten thousand?

    Your instructional video is wonderful. Your examples clearly show how rounding works. I particularly liked your round up chant. It helps us remember what to do. :)

    Rounding is a very important skill in mathematics. I often use rounding to do mental calculations. Rounding gives me an idea what an answer should be near so, on calculating, I know my answer should be close.

    During math class this year we used your rounding video! It was help to our class becuse we were learning rounding.The song catched on and when we need we use it. Also this year we are starting in the hundred thousands and the millons place. It is easier because when you know the answer it is very easy.
