Lucky Hat Day!

This week, Mrs. Yollis' class read  The Lost and Found, a story
in our anthology by Mark Teague.

The story is about three friends who get lost in the Lost and Found bin! Their lucky hats brings them good luck at the end of the story.

During the day, Mrs. Yollis had everyone write one of her famous THREE SENTENCE STORIES!

What is a three sentence story you ask?

Here is the format for the THREE SENTENCE Lucky Hat Day STORY:

Sentence 1 ~ introduces the character, the setting, and a problem.
Sentence 2 ~ the main character find his/her lucky hat in a specific place and puts it on.
Sentence 3 ~ The lucky hat solves the problem in a fantastic way!

    1. @ Emilyn,

I am so glad that you enjoyed our Lucky Hat Day! We created it to have fun with the Lost and Found story.

Here is a three sentence story I just made up:

      (1) On Valentine's Day, I forgot to make Valentines for my friends and felt horrible when everyone was was giving to me, and I had nothing to give in return. (2) I noticed my lucky hat in my backpack that I'd worn on Lucky Hat Day and placed the straw hat on my head. (3) Suddenly, a giant Cupid knocked on our classroom door with a bushel full of cards and delivered beautiful pink and purple Valentines to each of my classmates!

What was your 3 sentence story about?

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Darius and I have developed a three sentence story.

We were failing off a cliff with deadly great white sharks at the bottom. We spotted our lucky hats failing out of our backpacks, and we put them on. Suddenly, a rescue helicopter came to save us.

Do you have a three sentence story?

    Sincerely,

    Darius and Peter

    1. @ Darius and Peter,

Well done on the three sentence story! I could imagine you plunging toward the bottom of the cliff, yet also grabbing your lucky hats and getting them on your heads just in time! Who was flying the helicopter?

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Once I was at Dodger stadium and I lost my ticket. Then I found my lucky hat on a seat right next to me. Last, I put on my hat and a magical fairy came and gave me a ticket!

    1. @ Chance,

I love your three sentence lucky hat baseball story! I felt very sad when I read that you lost your ticket, but fortunately you found your lucky hat and that fairy gave you a ticket! Where did you get placed in Dodger Stadium?

    2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I sat in the top seats with my dad. We cheered for the Dodgers that night. They won! Maybe the fairies helped them too. Are you a Dodger fan also?

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
What a great lesson! Would you mind if I tried this sometime with my 3rd graders?
There are so many fabulous and creative hats in your movie. They all made me smile! I do have to admit I loved the bookworm hat. I wonder why?

  6. Dear Mrs. Yolllis,

Lucky hat day was so much fun!

My lucky hat was a birthday cake hat with some fruits, vanilla frosting, and candles.

Did anyone else have a hat that signified a special occasion?

Please tell me something about your lucky hat.

    Luckily,

    1. @ A♣shi,

Since you commanded me to tell you about my lucky hat, I will do so.

My lucky hat is fabulous! It has a garden of artificial, or fake, flowers all over the crown. In addition, it has a thick, black ribbon that wraps around and has a bow on the front. Two pheasant feathers stick out of the back in a fancy way.

My hat belonged to my Grandma Smillie who wore it in the 1940s. How old is my lucky hat?

Students, tell us about your hat.

      Mrs. Y♥llis

  7. Alec`s three sentence story:

One day I was walking in a bamboo forest, and ninja frogs attacked me. They took me to their secret cave and tied my hands with rope. Luckily, the rope was loose on one of my hands, so I slipped out my hand, grabbed my lucky hat from my backpack, and everything disappeared.

  8. Hi Mrs. Yollis. I am writing this blog for my spelling assignment.

I loved seeing the different lucky hats in class. My hat was black with two thick yellow eyes on it. Do you have any pictures from last years lucky hat day posted anywhere?

  9. I loved all the lucky hats. I liked all the decorations on the hats but because they had so many decorations, they were hitting me as I walked by. It was really fun!
