This week is palindrome week!
What is a palindrome?
pal·in·drome
noun
- a word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward, e.g., madam or nurses run.
Why is it palindrome week? Well, look at the dates!
They read the same forwards and backward!
September is the 9th month.
The days are 10 - 19.
The year is 19.

Here are some that we talked about in class:
Please share one or two new palindromes!
Where are some number palindromes?
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI found a palindrome: No Lemon, No Melon
I also found some number palindromes: 19191 and 323
My favorite palindrome is Madam, I'm Adam because it was surprising it was a palindrome.
Can you name your favorite Palindrome?
Your student,
Emily.E
@ Emily E.,
DeleteThank you so much for your terrific comment! Wow! (palindrome!)
I was quite impressed with the palindrome:
A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!
My favorite palindrome so far is: Taco cat because it sounds funny and Ivy's picture made me smile.
Check the odometer on your parent's car. Sometimes that number can be a palindrome. Sometimes it is close to a palindrome and if you watch it, you'll be able to see it turn into a palindrome! I'll explain on Monday what I mean.
Your palindrome-loving teacher,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI found a palindrome, "tangy gnat", even though it doesn't make sense. Iguanas don't eat tangy gnats because they don't if they even exist!

Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that your class was inspired to learn about palindromes. The palindromes in the photo I shared were collected by my 6th grade students. My favorite palindromes that I learned from them were "UFO Tofu" and "llama mall"
When will we able to celebrate the next palindrome week? How old will your students be then?
So, cat tacos? Stack cats! Star rat? Step on no pets.
In words, I drown!
Your former student,
Bonnie Knecht
@ Bonnie, (my former 5th grader)
DeleteThank you so much for tweeting about this the other day. I had not noticed the pattern, nor had I heard about it from anyone. The photo you posted of your classroom whiteboard with all the palindromes made me smile.
We will do some detective work to see if we can figure out when the next palindrome week will occur and how old we'll be. You offered us some fabulous math challenges!
Amore, Roma!
Your proud former teacher,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,
ReplyDeleteI like all of the palindrome examples that have been posted so far!
Below are some palindromes that can be found in "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "Bob." While the song is done in the style of a Bob Dylan song (and named after him), the song's title ("Bob") is a palindrome and every line in the song is a palindrome.
Here are just a few lines from the song:
"If I had a hi-fi"
"Was It A Car Or A Cat I Saw"
"May A Moody Baby Doom A Yam"
"A Toyota's A Toyota"
Can anyone think of some more first (or last) names that are palindromes?
Your Friend,
April (Ivy's mom)
@ April,
DeleteThank you so much for being our first parent commenter! We love having interaction with parents!
I had no idea that "Weird Al" Yankovic's had a palindrome song "Bob." I will have to locate it and give it a good listen!
Thank you!
Mrs. Y♥llis
Hi Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteIt’s been lovely reading all of these palindromes. I haven’t come up with a palindrome yet, but I’ll think of one soon. So many people are coming up with new palindromes. I’m going to look at my mom’s car and see if the odometer is a palindrome. Have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Your student, Natalia
Dear Mrs.Yollis
ReplyDeleteThis Sunday I was doing my typing for Sunday. When I was loging out of typing club my mom coming into the kitckin and yelling the palindrome POP. Yes pop
your student

Dear Mrs Yollis -
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for years to share this palindrome: racecar.
Thanks

Dear Mrs.Yollis and Class,
ReplyDeleteI am excited to learn about palindromes. I like the one I found!
May a moody baby doom a yam?
Thank you for teaching me about palindromes!
Have you heard the palindrome
May a moody baby doom a yam?
Your Student,
Cade
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I found an interesting palindrome. Read the words not the letters.
King, are you glad you are king?
I also found another one that I would like to share with you.
Wassamassaw
You might think that this is not a word, but it is a way to say water in Native American language.
Thanks,
Kasra
@Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteIt has been fun learning about palindromes. My favorite palindrome from class is taco cat. I was surprised to learn it was a palindrome.
I found a new palindrome, desserts, I stressed. I like this one, because I always stress to my mom how important dessert is!
Does anyone eat dessert when they are stressed?
Your sweet tooth student,
Evan
@Mrs. Yollis's Class,
ReplyDeleteMy favorite palindrome of all time is "A Man, A Plan, A Canal, Panama."
Does anyone know who the "Man" is referenced in the palindrome?
Hint: He was a United States President.
Sincerely,
Marshall (Evan's dad)
@Marshall (Evan's dad),
DeleteWe believe the "Man" is Theodore Roosevelt. Are we correct?
Sincerely,
Ivy and her mom
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI found some really good palindromes:
Was it a rat I saw?
A nut for a jar of tuna.
Go dog!
Don't nod!
Oozy rat in a sanitary zoo.
Mr. Owl ate my metal worm.
Has anyone ever seen a rat at the zoo?
Y♥ur rat-loving friend,
