Global Play Day ~ 2017

☼     ☼     ☼     ☼

First, we talked about the rules.
There would only be , the Golden Rule.

In the morning, we joined our young Journeys buddies for some play! They were having a super hero party! Check out the fabulous Ms. Regina in her super hero outfit!

Photos by Mrs. Yollis

There were many powerful super heroes in the room!

Board games were popular!

The referees call field goal!

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots was a real crowd pleaser!

After a great session, we headed back to our

classroom for more play!

Towers were built, yet needed more engineering!

Board games brought big smiles!

 Students played Scrabble!

Origami was available!

Many were drawn to the magnets!

This was a fun game. What was the name of this

game? What was the object of the game?

Some students went outside to play!

What is your opinion of Global School Play Day?

Would you recommend it?

Support your opinion with some examples.

I love this idea and am so happy that our school has embraced it. The interactivity of play is decreasing with "new games" like Xbox and Texting. What I enjoyed most about these photos was seeing the kids playing, talking and collaborating together. Let's do this more than once a year!

Global School Play Day was a success in my opinion. Dylan B. came home in a great mood, he played with his sister without fighting, and he took a board game to his grandparents' house after school to play with them.

It sounded like the kids taught each other how to play games some of the games. So it was an opportunity for kids to both teach, learn and work together while they played.

Class - what was your favorite game or thing that you played during Global School Play Day?

    1. @ April (Dylan’s mom),

      Global Play Day was awesome!

To answer your question, in my opinion, my favorite game I played was chess. One reason is that you have to watch every move your opponent makes, and it is a big strategy game. If you don’t notice your opponent’s move, it may have been important and you definitely want to know what he/she is going to do. Your opponent can be doing something and if you see them do it, you can knock them out, which brings me to my next point. You also have to plan ahead. Some plans, like the Scholar's Mate, gives you the chance to achieve checkmate in four moves! When doing the Scholar’s Mate plan, you have both your bishop and your queen facing the f7 square. The f7 square is the square where the pawn is protecting the bishop right next to the king. If you get your opponent's pawn, you are diagonally right next to the king. Since both pieces can go diagonally, it is checkmate. Clearly, chess is a fantastic game!

I also went home in a good mood. I think playing board games all day was a very fun and non stressful activity. That’s why everyone went home with a smile.

What was your favorite game you played and why?

  3. @ Mrs. Yollis,

I was so excited for Global School Play Day, and I couldn't even choose
a game to bring. I decided to bring a football launcher. In my opinion my favorite game I played during Global School Play Day was Rush Hour. It was fun but also hard. Chaolin,Keya’ and I couldn’t do one card.

Would you want to have Global School Play Day again and why?

    Your student,
    Enzo

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

    Global Play Day was magnificent!

In my opinion, students brought really fun and interesting games. I played chess, my game called Telestrations, and Scrabble. In chess, you have characters you move. Each character has a certain power. The point of the game is to knock out the opponent's king.

In Telestrations, you have a notepad, a dry-erase pen, a card, and one die. You roll the die and look at your card. You look for the number the die landed on, draw a picture of the word, then pass your notepad to the person on your left. Make sure nobody sees your word. Keep drawing and guessing until you get your notepad back. Then read what your word turned into. For example, your word could be ‘dinosaur’ and could turn into ‘big rock.’

In Scrabble, you have letters and you try to make words and get points. You get points by making words and adding the numbers on the letters, making words on spaces that say double letter score, double word score, triple letter score, or triple word score.

Playing on Global Play Day was a blast!

What was your favorite game? What games did you do?

    Sincerely,
    Nolan

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

Out of all the games, Rock’Em Sock’Em was the best. One reason is because it’s fun to play. First of all, it’s a competitive in a fun way. In my opinion, it was awesome, exciting, and felt great when the opponent's head went up. All in all, Rock’em Sock’em was the best game.

    What is your favorite game?

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

Out of all the games played on Global Play Day, chess was the best game. One reason, it is a fun game to play. You have to move the right piece to knock the other piece off the board. It is fun to say checkmate. The second reason is that each piece can make their own move. Each piece can knock a different piece out of their own way. In conclusion, chess was the best game.

    What was your favorite game?
    from,

    Hayden
