I'm especially excited about the reading blog that we will share! having regular blogging buddies is such a fun way to learn and to share ideas.

I look forward to following all your posts to find out what fascinating new things you are learning.

    Happy Blogging!

  2. Dear Mrs Yollis and class,

Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you are excited to be back and hopefully you all had a wonderful summer break!

For the past two months I have been at school teaching 2KJ! It has been the coldest and wettest Winter here in Victoria (that's the name of our state) so we are glad that it is now spring!
We have our holidays in two and a half weeks.

What was the highlight of your holidays? Perhaps you could come up with a top ten list, we like to do that here.

I hope you all have a fantastic first day back! :)

  8. Dear Mrs Yollis' class,

    Welcome back!

If you have not yet "met" me, my name is Miss McGeady. I teach a grade two class at Leopold Primary School in Victoria, Australia.

My class, 2KM, has been blogging buddies with Mrs Yollis' class since the start of 2009! I think that means you are the third group of students from Mrs Yollis' class that we've collaborated with.

Mrs Yollis and I have been discussing some special projects that your class can work on with 2KM later in the year. I can't wait!

I work in a big double classroom with Miss Jordan and her class is called 2KJ. There are 43 students altogether in 2KM and 2KJ.

While you have been on holidays I have been busy teaching although I did have some exciting news. I got engaged on 29th June and I will be getting married in December!

You guys sure are lucky to have Mrs Yollis as teacher. You will have a wonderful year together!

    Hear from you soon,
    Your new friend,
    Miss McGeady

PS it was good to hear from Nick and Sydney. Will your fourth grade teachers have a blog??

  11. Hello Mrs Yollis and your new Grade 3s
We first looked at your blog a couple of months ago, but you all went on summer holiday so we have had to wait to introduce ourselves.
I am Mrs McKenzie from New Zealand and the children in the class are Year 2 and 3 children, which means that some are 6 years old, some are 7 and some are just starting to turn 8.
We hope that we can share some learning conversations with you over the year.

  12. Dear Mrs Yollis and your new class,

I love the start of the new school year. I especially like opening new school supplies. It is a great chance to have a fresh start. I think that is one of the best things about teaching, every year you can set new goals.

It is always exciting meeting your new class and getting to know them. I look forward to hearing all of the wonderful things you do with your class and meeting some of them through the blog.

It was a great idea to do a video and it gave me a chance to see what you look like! It is funny how it feels like you know someone, even though you have only sent messages on the Internet!

Good luck for the start of the school year. I would love to hear what goals you and your class have for this school year.

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
I'm very excited to start a new year in third grade today!
My summer was full of relaxation, as well as adventure. One highlight was hiking in the Sierras over 12,000 feet above sea level! The air was so clean and fresh, and we even had to hike through some snow! Another special highlight was my visit to New York, where I was overjoyed to see my daughter's dance performance!
I look forward to another year of working with you and being your Chaparral blogging buddy!

Thank you for leaving a great comment! We are just learning how to blog today.

We hope you had a great winter! (We are surprised that it is winter in the southern hemisphere. Many students did not know that.)

    We have some question:

How many students do you have?
How many years have you been teaching?
    How was your day?
How many students at your school?

We have 610 students at our school.

We look forward to writing to you again!

  18. Dear Mrs Yollis and class,

Thanks for the reply to our comments! I am sure you will all be blogging experts in no time!

Yes it is hard to understand that our two hemispheres have opposite seasons, it is very hard for us to imagine having a Winter Christmas like you do!

You asked a few questions, here are the answers. Miss Jordan has been teaching for 7 years, she started teaching at exactly the same time as Miss McGeady! There are 22 students in 2KJ and we have about 700 students in our whole school. It is the biggest primary school (which means elementary school) in Geelong.

Our day at school yesterday was great! We started making dinosaur dioramas which was fun.

Our topic this term is dinosaurs. Do you have a topic you're learning about?

    Have a wonderful day/night!

You are working with numbers which I do like. However I must admit I much rather prefer even numbers than odd numbers .
Now Mrs Yollis you asked me if 358 is odd or even and I would say its an even number. Am I right!

I really also liked the question you asked me about " down under.

Down under refers to Australia because Australia is located below many other countries on the globe.

I am having so much fun and it's only the second day! School is going to be a blast this year.

Later today I'm going to my karate class. I am a blue belt, I have four more belts to go before I earn my black belt. I also play soccer and the piano. All these activities along with my homework keep me pretty busy but I always have time for fun and blogging!

Do you like to play any sports or do you play any musical instruments?

  70. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
I had a busy afternoon. After my homework, I played piano. My mom kept saying, "practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect." I am preparing for a piano compatition. I already have a piano competition trophy from last year. This year, I will play Sonatina #2 in G major by Clementi and Gypsy camp by Behr. The songs are long, hard and fast.

Now I'm going to ballroom dance class.

    Dear Everyone!

I am overjoyed with the activity and enthusiasm shown toward our classroom blog! Normally, I teach the students to comment back to each person who comments.

That is important because when someone takes the time to read a post and comment, I like to type them a reply. :-)

Having said that...I am thrilled, yet happily overwhelmed by the 70 comments! So I am going to do a big THANK YOU to all of our readers and commenters!

We ♥ the support you have given.

    With sincere gratitude,
    Mrs. Y♥lis

I had a great summer. We went to Palm Springs with my Nanny and Poppy and my cousins. They met us there from NY. Also my grandma and grandpa came to visit for three weeks. We had a blast. Then they left :( We went to Camp Keystone for a month and then we did Lego camp. We built stuff with battery packs and motors. We had a terrific summer. I hope you had an exquisite one.

Here are the answers to your questions....

Are your students good listeners? I asked 2KM and they said NO but I think they are being too hard on themselves. Usually they are great listeners!

Do you like teaching? I must admit, I ♥ teaching.

What is your favorite subject to teach? I love to teach about technology! I also love to teach integrated studies (I think you call it social studies) because it is so interesting to learn about the world in which we live.

Happy Friday! (our Friday is nearly over)

How nice of you to answer to our comment. I think the Welcome Back port will set a record for the most comments generated!
Our class has 20 students in it-12 boys and 8 girls. The children are Year 2 and 3, which means some are 6 years old, some are 7, and some are just starting to turn 8.
In New Zealand we start school on our 5th birthday. What age did you start school at?

Because we have two teachers for our class I teach mainly numeracy, reading and writing, so it's luky that they are my favourites!
The other teacher takes topic, art and PE.

  93. Dear Mrs Yollis and students, welcome back to a new school year.I loved the video, what a great way to start the year off. We haven't met you before so we thought we would introduce ourselves. We are Room 3 at Otewa School, a small rural school in the Waikato district of New Zealand. We have just 60 students at our school. While you have been on Summer break we have been enjoying a very wet winter. But tulips and daffodils are out so the warmer weather is on its way. Our class has 25 students aged 9 - 13 and we are looking forward to following your blog as many other teachers have told us how wonderful it is.
