However, the word today meant two different things.

Today in Mrs. Yollis' class it was:
Tuesday, December 15, and the clock read 2:00 P.M.

Today in Mrs. Yollis' class, it is almost Winter Break!
Today in 2KM's class, it is almost Summer Vacation!
Students enjoyed meeting and sharing with Miss McGeady and their blogging buddies.
We noticed the our two classes had a lot of similarities and a few differences.
One difference: Australia uses the metric system and the U.S. uses customary units.
Here is a converter to compare the two systems.

What did you like about the experience?
What did you learn?
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteNick and I enjoyed having the Skype call to Miss McGeady, and her class. We also think they will leave a lot of comments on Ben's blog, Kayla's blog and Nick's blog. We would like to say thank you to Miss McGeady, and class because of her kindness on the Skype call.
Your students,
Sydney and Nick
P.S. Nick and I would love to have another Skype call with Miss McGeady and her class.
Dear Mrs Yollis' Class,
ReplyDeleteWow! We had so much fun skyping with you all this morning! None of us had skyped before and we were so glad it worked out so well!
I learnt a lot from talking to you all. One thing I learnt about was the weather. You are having winter and we are having summer. I learnt that today is 105 degrees Fahrenheit here in Australia and 65 (?) degrees Fahrenheit there is the USA. We use Celsius to measure temperature in Australia so it is 40 degrees Celsius here and 18 degrees Celsius for you.
I learnt that not many people in the USA have heard of our most popular sport – AFL (Australian Rules Football)! You can find out more about it here http://www.afl.com.au/ Most people in our class barrack for our home team, Geelong!
I learnt that many people in your class have celebrations other than Christmas including Hanukah and Indian festivities. We looked at Nick’s blog to find out more about Hanukah!
It was so much fun skyping with you and I hope the new 2KM can skype with you again in 2010!!
Merry Christmas everyone!
From Miss McGeady
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am a student at Lindero Canyon in Mrs. Loftons class. I think it is really cool how you talk about all different topics in your blog. I remember when I was in third grade and we had pen pals too. I wish I could meet my pen pal like you guys did. You guys have an awesome teacher.
Yours truly,
Ladybug1
@Ladybug1,
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have another visitor from Mrs. Lofton’s class! You mentioned you had a pen pal back in third grade, but never got to meet them. I have had that experience, too. Using Skype to talk to people who live far away is one of the advantages of the new technology.
My students enjoy getting comments, and it sounds like your class is starting to learn about that part of blogging. One tip that I have taught my students about posting a comment is to proofread carefully. We use the Firefox browser which has a great spelling feature. If a word is misspelled, it is underlined in red! Also, if you hold the control key down and click on the word, you will be offered the correct spelling! Technology is great!
Again, it is so great to get to meet you, and my class and I invite you to come back and maybe leave another comment.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am from Mrs. Lofton's class. I think it's great that you are letting your students have a blog. You are a great teacher. Happy Holidays!

Dear Mrs. Yollis
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the skype call very much. This is my first experience. I would like to have it at home so that I can do it from home with my friends.
Your student,
Paul
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful skype with Mrs. McGeady and her class. I learned that Mrs. McGeady and her class are almost done with school. I did not know that Football was their most popular sport.
I would like to talk to them again some day. Do you think that we will do another skype with someone else? Who are we going to skype next? Don't you think that it was nice of her to plan this with us? Don't you feel lucky?
I think that she is a good teacher. If I were in Australia I would die for her to be my teacher. That skype was the best one!
I can't belive that you can skype all over the world! Did the whole class like it? Do you know when we will skype with her again?
Your friend,
Jared
@ luvrofpeace,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Mrs. Lofton's students are excellent participants in this online community! We love how each person is proofreading for spelling and grammar errors!
All of you are great models for our class and the world!

Mrs. Yollis
