November is Family Blogging Month

Mrs. Yollis and her students  to share what they are learning and experiencing. In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are proclaiming:

November is Family Blogging Month!

Each student made a list of their family members.

After looking through the archive of our class blog and our Yollis 365 blog, students selected specific posts tailored to the interest of a particular relative. Selecting a good post for mom and dad, another for grandma.

A dog post is a great one for siblings!

We're inviting everyone to comment: moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
We welcome friends, too!

Students will be inviting their family and friends to participate in a conversation!
Maybe we'll get some 2-point comments

(We frequently evaluate the comments that our blog has received. In order to earn the 2-points, a comment must be error-free and add something to the post.   Many of Mrs. Yollis' third graders have already met the challenge!)

If you don't know what to say, here is a video made by Mrs. Yollis' third graders.

Learn FIVE tips for writing a quality comment!

If you don't know How to leave a comment, here is a video tutorial about HOW to leave a comment on our blog.

Here is the key we will use for  Family Blogging Month.

What do you think of our idea?

Who are you inviting to be a part of our online community?

Please leave a comment and introduce yourself!

  1. Mrs. M. (Mimi's mom)November 1, 2017 at 8:04 PM

Hi Everyone! Most of you know me already from Art Class with Mrs. Lowy. I'm Ms. M/, Mimi's mom! I have to tell you that I'm extremely excited about family blogging month. It's so important to learn this now, because you will be using this a lot later on in life. I love that you are learning the correct way to comment. It will make the Internet a more pleasant place with all of you commenting so politely, and using such good grammar and punctuation!

I have been a food-blogger before, so I have a little experience with this. I am looking forward to spending more time with you all here in cyberspace! Here's a question for the class: what is your favorite subject to blog about?

    Your blogging buddy,
    Mrs. M.

  2. Benjamin's mom, LaurenNovember 2, 2017 at 5:46 PM

    Hello All!
I am Benjamin's mom! I met most of you at the Halloween party last week, where I helped you make donut spiders...YUM! I am so excited for family blogging month. I think it will be a great way for all of the students to get to know everyone's families.

I think it is wonderful that Mrs. Yollis is blogging with you will soon see how useful and fun blogging can be!

I am looking forward to getting to know you all. What is your favorite part of Mrs. Yollis's class?

    Talk to you soon!
    Lauren, Benjamin's mom

  3. Mrs. G (Chloe Sky's A) I love that there is so much information on your Blog for parents and family to read. We can learn about all of the exciting things going on in your classroom even though we aren't in your classroom physically. I really love all of the Dia de los Muertos art and I hope that you all had a safe and Happy Halloween! It is always important to be grateful for the things in your life. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to actually express your thanks to your friends and family and even your teacher. What are you most thankful for in Mrs. Yollis classroom or at your school? I cant wait to read your responses.

  4. Hi Friends!

I'm Chloe Sky's godmother, Jocelyn, and I'm happy to see Mrs. Yollis' blog is back! I remember posting when Kostaki was in third grade, and I think this is a great way to introduce students to blogging. I'd love to hear about what you all are interested in doing in your free time. I'd especially know if there are any books you're reading that you love. I'm a writer, and I'm always looking for recommendations!

    1. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
      @Nouna Jocelyn,

I think it's great that you remember blogging to Kostaki when he was in Mrs. Yollis' class. I also think it's a great way to introduce students to blogging and Mrs. Yollis thought of that because she has a great mind and thinks things through before actually doing them.

My favorite book is either Charlotte's Web or Flora and Ulysses. (You probably gave that to Aleko when he was my age!)

Some recommendations for your writing is that in one of my other favorite series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, the author Lemony Snicket really describes things so you know exactly what he's saying. I think you, if you're not already doing it, should add adjectives, inner dialogue, and onomatopoeia. (Don't ask how I learned to spell it.) If html works on your computer, you should watch Mrs. Yollis' video on how to do html and you can put shapes like ♥ ♣ ♦ ♠, etc.

      Chl♥e Sky

p.s. I had fun with Nouno Teddy when he came for my daddy's 50th birthday. We learned French!

    2. Chloe Sky,

Thank you for sharing your favorite books with me. I always loved Charlotte's Web, but I never read Flora and Ulysses (though I believe you are right that I gave it to Aleko). I really appreciate your suggestion of using adjectives, inner dialogue, and especially onomatopoeia! You seem to know a lot about writing, and I really enjoy your stories. Your mom shared your story with me, The Face that Got Erased, and I thought it was awesome! A very clever concept, and very well-narrated too :) I look forward to more of your stories!

I miss you very much, but at least you got to spend time with Nouno Teddy.

      Je t'aime!

  5. Hello Chloe Sky's Class! I am Chloe's Thea Leslie, all the way from Ohio! Thea is the Greek word for aunt. Chloe and I are not actually related though, I am really dear friends with her parents. Sometimes in life your friends become just like family! That seems to be especially true for Greek people! If someone who is Greek becomes your close friend, they will probably start calling you their cousin : )

I had the opportunity to come to your school last June when I was visiting Chloe and her family. I am excited to have this chance to stay connected and know what is going on in your classroom!

I love the month of November because Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I would love to know about your traditions in California! What does your family do for Thansgiving? What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? What are you thankful for?

Hope you have LOTS to share!
    Chloe's Thea Leslie

    1. @Thea Leslie,
You are right. Sometimes in life your friends do become your family. Thank you for putting in the effort to blog on Mrs. Yollis' blog. I won't answer all of your questions because I want other people to contribute too. So I just want to say that Thanksgiving, along with Christmas, is one of my favorite holidays.

My family for Thanksgiving invites a lot of our relatives, so that means you should come too. I can't wait to see you guys this summer or even sooner. I will have lots to share then. You should stay connected with this blog so I can always communicate with you and see what you are doing. And a : ) to you too!

      Chl♥e Sky ♥♥♥♥♥♥

  6. Patrice, Benjamin’s AuntNovember 6, 2017 at 8:00 PM

I am Benjamin's Aunt, Patrice. Benjamin calls me Auntie Tice. I think it is great that your class is blogging. Benjamin sometimes tells me what he does at school but this gives me the chance to find out more about what is happening in class. I love Fall and the cooler weather. What is your favorite season?
Hope to hear from you soon!
    Patrice, Benjamin Aunt

  7. Hello everyone,

This is Jake's Canadian Aunt writing. My name is Lisa and I live in Toronto, Canada. Many Americans think that Canadians often use the word "eh" at the end of our sentences when we are speaking. I never do because I know it is poor grammar! It sounds like Mrs. Yollis is doing a wonderful job to make sure all of the 3rd graders are using proper grammar.

I am really looking forward to December because I am coming down to California for a visit with my two sons (Jake's cousins), Noah and Dylan. It has been almost two years since we have seen Jake, his brothers and his parents and we miss them very much. It is also exciting because we usually only celebrate Hanukkah at home but when we come to California, we celebrate Christmas too!

It's too bad that when we come for our visit to California, it will be during your school break. Otherwise, we would have liked to come visit your classroom to meet some of you. We will have to learn about your community through this terrific blog. I think it is wonderful that you are learning how to post comments on blogs. This will be a useful skill as you get older.

I am sorry that the LA Dodgers didn't win the World Series this year. We were cheering for you from far away. Maybe next year, the Toronto Blue Jays will have a better chance at playing in the playoffs or World Series, and if they do, I hope you will cheer for us from sunny California. Go Jays Go!

I'm looking forward to learning more about your community through this Family Blogging Month and I wish you luck in winning one of the prizes.

    Lisa (Jake's Aunt)

  8. Rachel Arnopolin (Chloe's friend)November 7, 2017 at 3:57 PM

Hi! I'm Chloe's mom's oldest friend. We've been friends since we were in playgroup together when we were 3 years old. I love Chloe and her whole family!! Every summer, Chloe and her family take a long trip back to Ohio where her Mom and Dad grew up, and we try to hang out with Chloe and her brothers as much as we can. This summer, we took them bowling at a fancy bowling alley in downtown Cleveland. Then we walked down the street to get ice cream that is frozen by using liquid nitrogen!! It gets all smoky when they pour the liquid nitrogen into the cream and ingredients, and then you are left with the silkiest ice cream you have ever eaten!!

We can't wait for Chloe and her family to come back next summer for our next adventure!!

    1. @Rachel,
You are right. That ice cream that we had in June was the creamiest, silkiest, and tastiest ice cream ever! Anyway, I didn't know that you have known my mom since you guys were only three years old. : ) I can't wait to see Raleigh and Cori and the rest of your family. I wished I lived in Ohio to see you guys much more often. I can't wait for our next adventure either!

      Chl♥e Sky

  9. Hi Kids! I am Chloe's Theo George from Ohio. Theo is Greek for Uncle. Even though Chloe's dad and I aren't brothers we have known each other since we were younger than you and are very close.
I really liked visiting your school this year and wish I could visit more often. My home is about 2,300 miles from your school. Which sounds like a lot and it is. The average person walks 3 miles in an hour which means it would take you 767 hours (2300 divided by 3 = 767) to walk from your school to my house. With computers and this blog site it's like I can visit anytime.
What do you think the difference is in the weather between California and Ohio?

    1. @Theo Ge♥rge,

That was some very complicated math going on! I can visit you anytime too! Please stay with us on this fabulous blog.

It is a pleasure having you be able to contribute on this blog. Knowing you, you are probably going to strike up a conversation about something like chocolate cake. I know some place on the 365 blog where there is such a yummy chocolate cake.

  10. Thia Lizzy (Chloe Sky's Aunt)November 7, 2017 at 8:59 PM

    Hi Chloe Sky!

This is Chloe Sky's aunt and uncle. Chloe Sky calls us Thia Lizzy and Thia Ryan. We're so excited to see that you have a blog going in your class! I remember Kostaki had the same teacher!
What a great way to communicate with you and see what you're doing these days. We live in Seattle, Washington where it's been a beautiful Fall. Penelope (Chloe Sky's cousin) is getting really excited to spend Thanksgiving with her and the rest of the family. We had a great time when we were together this summer. We went hiking and Chloe Sky was a big help. What is your favorite subject and what are you most interested in learning about in reference to blogs? We love you!

    1. @Thea Lizzy,

Hello, Thea Lizzy! I was perusing the comments and saw yours, so I started reading it when I thought something you don't regularly think:

You still haven't come down to California to have a taco party yet.

I know. It is strange, but seeing as tacos are tasty, and I'm writing this at about two o'clock, I figured that researching tacos seemed like the ideal thing to do.
Here are some interesting facts about tacos that I found:

October 3 is National Taco Day.

Taco Bell uses at least 600,000 cows worth of beef per year. Citing Taco Bell’s own website, they serve an average of 295 million pounds of ground beef every year.

Taco Bell started as Bell’s Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in San Bernadino, CA back in 1950 by Glen W. Bell Jr.

Americans eat over 4 billion tacos each year.

The world’s largest taco was 246 feet long.

½ of the U.S.’s population eats at taco bell once a month

I hope these interesting facts prove useful. Meanwhile I have to go buy a sombrero for the taco party!

      Xavier P.

  11. Hi Class,
How are you? I am Ethan's Auntie April.
I just wanted to say hello and tell you how cool it is that you are blogging. I am an elementary school teacher like Mrs. Yollis. However, I teach Physical Education. What is your favorite game in PE or during recess? I would like to come to class one day to meet all of you.
Enjoy each day, listen and learn, play safely, and have fun!

  12. Lori - Jake F's AuntNovember 14, 2017 at 7:10 PM

    Hello Class!
This is Jake's Aunt Lori and his cousins (Allie, Evan and Cassidy) writing from NJ. We all love the idea of a Family Blog and think it's so great that you are doing this. It will be a great skill for you to have as you get older.

We are so excited because we're going to see Jake and the rest of the family next week for Thanksgiving. November is such a great time to reach out and reconnect with family.

It looks like your class has been doing some great activities this month - I especially liked all of your Veteran Day posts, such a great way to remember those who served in our armed forces.

We're looking forward to following your blog.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
    Lori (Jake F's Aunt)

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

About a week ago, my family and I were just quietly strolling thru Barnes and Nobles when suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it,
    a Meccano motorcycle.

It`s an uncommon toy so let me tell you about it. The Meccano motorcycle is pretty much a complicated Lego, it came with many parts including nuts and bolts. It took me about two days to build the Meccano motorcycle but considering how cool it is, it was worth it.

Have you ever built anything? Maybe you could tell me about it.

    Sincerely, M♦cah

  14. Hello Everyone!
This is Aneta, Mila's mom, and we are just joining the family blog. You know what they say...Better late than never!

We have enjoyed reading the classroom blog posts, and I have especially loved the correspondence and video blogs between your class and the class in Australia. I hope that the two classes can connect in "real-time" one day.

For Thanksgiving, Mila, her little sister, Tali, and I travelled to the East Coast to visit my husband's family. It is a tradition we have developed over the years that has become one of the highlights we look forward to all year long! We hope everyone has been having a wonderful month and enjoyed their Thanksgiving Holiday.

How did you all spend your Thanksgiving? We would love to hear all about it!

  15. Hi everyone!

I am one of Mila's aunts from Georgia. Some people call me YaYa while others call me Allison. We just had a great Thanksgiving where Mila came to visit us in Georgia. She was able to spend time with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She even spent time with our dog Ziggy!

How did you spend your Thanksgiving?

    Mila's Aunt Yaya

    1. Hi Yaya, this is Tali! I was so excited to see your comment! I loved seeing everyone in Georgia for Thanksgiving, Ziggy too.
      Love you,
      Tali (Mila's little sister)

  16. Hi,

My name is Anna Lotakov, and I am Mila Prince's aunt. Im so excited to be participating on this blog. I cant wait to hear about the things you're learning at school. Please let me know how I could help! :)

    1. Hi Auntie Anna! I'm so excited that you commented! We just started multiplication the other month. We will soon be moving on to division. Right now we are practicing breaking up numbers into doubles and multiplying those. Recently, we also started coding. We are coding on "Hour of Code". My favorite subject in school is reading.

About helping...November is family blogging month and it ends on Friday. Please try to get in as many comments as you can to earn me points! You can comment on any of the different pages in the class blog. Comments in the 365 blog also count! Remember, use first names only.

      Love you,

  17. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

This is Mila's grandma Erika and this is my 1st blog. I've read the history in your blogs and what a great way to communicate within a group.

Last Saturday Mila with her Mom and sister Tali returned home from Atlanta where they spend their Thanksgiving Holiday with the East Coast side of the family.

I picked them up from LAX and we spend the rest of the day together having a small family reunion - great-grandmother Lilly who is 92, Mommy, Daddy, Mila, Tali and our two poodles Maya and Trezor.

After having dinner Mila and Tali suggested we play a game and the winner will get from Mila a massage and from Tali - a song and a dance.

What a great evening it was!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

    Erika, Mila's Grandma.

  18. Hi everyone! My name is Randi and I am Mila's parents friend. I live all the way across the country in New Jersey. We were both in Atlanta for Thanksgiving and we got a chance to spend some fun time together at a park where we did lots of climbing. It was so much fun to play with her and Tali:)
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

  19. Hello Class!
These are Mila’s Gradma Luba and Grandpa Yuri (babushka and dedushka in Russian). To tell the truth we never thought that Family blogging could be such fun and a great learning tool. Also it gives us an opportunity to know more and better about Mila and all her friends. Recently we spent a week in Club Med, Ixtapa with Mila, her parents, her sister and her friends and it was an amazing time of being together. Enjoy holiday season and don’t forget to study hard :).
Looking forward to spend more time blogging!
Luba and Yuri, Mila’s Babushka and Dedushka

  20. Hi everyone!

I am Mila's aunt, Katia. I'm actually her mom's cousin, but I consider Mila to be my niece and my kids are her cousins. I live in Brooklyn, New York, and don't get to see Mila and her sister Tali nearly enough. I just got to see her mom when she was on the East Coast for Thanksgiving, but sadly I didn't see Mila or Tali.

I have a 3-year-old son named Luka, and a 2-month-old daughter named Iris - Mila's cousins. Mila hasn't met Iris yet, but hopefully they'll meet soon! I miss Mila and her sister very much, and would love to move to California in the next few years to be closer to them, because family is everything.

Thank you for inviting me to check out your blog and leave a comment. I've really enjoyed reading the posts and the other comments. I think it's really neat that your class is learning about blogging. I love reading blogs - my favorites are the ones about families, and also cooking. You can learn lots of great recipes that way. Do you guys like to cook? What are some of your favorite foods to make (and eat)?

    Auntie Katia

  21. Hi class:

I am Mila's aunt from Atlanta. My last post did not show up. I guess I must have not hit the publish button.
I really enjoyed reading the blog posts. I actually did the same building exercise with the pasta and marshmallows that you did in the pictures. My team was unable to make our structure stand. It was really fun.
How have you enjoyed the family blogging month?
    Have a great weekend,
    Aunt Steph (aka Aunt Ga)

  22. Hello from San Francisco!

We are Mila's Aunt Dana and Uncle Ari. Actually, just like Aunt Katia, Ari is actually her mom's cousin too. But we like to think of Mila and her sister Tali as our nieces.

We last saw Mila when there were the big fires in Northern California a few weeks ago and the smoke in San Francisco was so bad that we decided to take a quick drive to visit the Princes with our puppy Lemmy. While we were there we got to visit a pumpkin patch with Mila and have a pizza party. It was so much fun and I'm still dreaming of that delicious pizza we had with artichokes on it!

Right now Uncle Ari is cooking quesadillas and I am blogging. I love blogs, and even had my own fashion blog for a little while. It was so much fun but blogging is a lot of work!

Thanks for inviting us to comment!

Aunt Dana and Uncle Ari (and Lemmy the dog and Zeke the cat and Captain the cat!)
