Three Students Earn Their Own Blog!

In Mrs. Yollis' class, students can earn their own blogs by writing quality comments and demonstrating responsible classroom habits.  Although it was very difficult for Mrs. Yollis to choose because everyone has been writing quality comments, she chose Grace, Jaden, and Ryan to start their own blogs!

Click on the link below each blog to visit and hopefully leave a quality comment!

What do you think of the idea of earning a blog?

Do you have any post ideas to recommend to the new bloggers?
What kinds of posts interest you?

  1. I would suggest you have the students write about things they are learning since reflection is a very powerful learning practice. I also think that they should be able to write posts about things they choose to write about now and then.

  2. Congratulations to Grace, Jaden and Ryan on earning your blogs!

I have been very impressed with the commitment you have show to your class blog.

It is a big responsibility to have a blog. You have to make sure you write interesting posts and reply to your readers' comments. I am certain you will all be up for the challenge!

I am looking forward to reading your posts.

Maybe you would like to become buddies with some of the bloggers in 2KM. Clancy, Sophie, Bianca, Ashleigh and Rhiannon all have their own blogs.

You can find the links on the sidebar of the 2KM

    Happy blogging,
    Your friend,

  4. Dear Ryan☆, Jaden☆ and Grace☆
Well done on earning your blogs.

Do you know, I had a feeling a few weeks ago that Jaden and Ryan would be among the first in the class to earn their own blogs, because they have worked so hard on their commenting.
I have also read a lot of great comments from Grace.

I look forward to reading your blogs and finding out what you are doing, and what you are thinking.

  9. Mrs. Yollis and new student bloggers,

It sounds like you have a great system for blogging in your classroom. I don't have any particular post ideas to recommend, but I thought I'd share this one thing: my students starting their blogs really like creating shelfari shelves and making it into a widget. It is a great way to add something colorful and meaningful in not too much time. Also, it is something ongoing that can be added to whenever you read something new.

As a teacher, I really like that the students get to write their own review of each book and it shows up on the blog widget (as a hover balloon). My newest student to do this is Jakob (at www.slaymay.blogspot.com) and he says to tell your new bloggers, "Try it out! It is fun!"

  10. I just love that you have students earn the right to blog! That is so smart. Blogging (like other activities) is not for everyone and helping those students for who have a passion and talent in a particular area is such smart teaching!!!

I'm placing Mrs. Yollis on my list of recommended speakers for transforming ed for a teacher who really gets it (http://theinnovativeeducator.blogspot.com/2010/11/who-would-you-like-to-have-speak-to.html)

  11. Congratulations to Grace, Jaden, and Ryan on earning your blogs!

My name is Allie, and I am an EDM310 student at the University of South Alabama. I've heard Dr. Strange make references to this class blog numerous times throughout the semester, but this is the first time that I've actually paid a visit! And I must say that I am VERY impressed! :)

To Grace, Jaden, and Ryan: Having your own blog is a big responsibility! You must write posts that you feel others will enjoy reading and be sure to reply to all of your readers comments. Having a blog is tough work! That's something that I've learned in Dr. Strange's class!

I'm sure you guys will do great though! I can't wait to read what you have to say!

  12. @ Bianca,

You know first hand how wonderful it is to have your own blog! I must say, you are a model blogger. You always have interesting, well-written posts. Plus, you always make the readers feel special and included because you comment back to them. Thanks for being such a great blogger!

    @ TJ,

I agree! Earning your blog makes students rise up and do their best...always! Everyone's writing has improved from this process.

    @ Ms. Tatiana,

Thanks for the tip about Shelfari! I see them on different blogs, but I've never used one! I'll check out Jakob's new post!

    @ The Innovative Educator,

Thanks so much for the support you've given me and the blog. The level of everyone's writing improves when they know they have to earn a blog. Also, the commenting on the new student blogs is also fabulous!

Wow! I appreciate you putting me on that list! That's a huge honor for me! Thank you!

    @ Allie,

Yes, the three new bloggers are over the moon about their new blogs!

It makes me happy to hear that Dr. Strange speaks so highly of this blog. I think very highly of his EDM310 class. As a teacher who has taught for 24 years, I can tell you...it is a new world we are entering. The skills you are learning in Dr. Strange's class will serve you well when you get your own students.

Please feel free to visit and leave a comment on the new student blogs! They'd love it!

    Good luck!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

  13. Dear Grace, Jaden, and Ryan,

Congratulations! Blogs are so important, but can also be lots of fun! I have recently started blogging, and I am really enjoying it! I hope that you 3 enjoy your blogs as well.

I love to read blogs that are interesting. I also think it's important that you guys get to write about the things that you'd like to write about from time to time. As a student, I know what it feels like to be given a topic to blog about.

I hope that you three enjoy the rest of the school year! Keep blogging; I look forward to reading your posts in the future!
