Happy Halloween! :: Green Screen Fun!

Today was Halloween and our school held "Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character" Day! It was fun way to meet some new characters!

In the morning, students took turns taking a photo of their book and then posing like the character. Using our iPads and the Do Ink app we were able to quickly make some outstanding images!

Paid app (I am not being paid to endorse this product.)

Behold! Meet our favorite book characters!

In the afternoon, the room moms and volunteers put on a spook-tacular party!

What do you think of our green screen images?

Leave a comment as if you are that character still! Strike up a conversation with a book character! (Do not use real names.)

What new book will you be reading?

    Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I loved getting to help with your Halloween party today and seeing everyone in their costumes.

I think the 'dress as your favorite book character' is a great way to celebrate Halloween. And the green screen photos are so creative and fun!

I am wondering if any of the students had trouble deciding which book character to be. And if so, how did they make their final decision?

Did any costumes that you saw this year give you ideas about what to dress up as next year?

    Sincerely,
    April (Dylan B.'s mom)

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I am going to give hints about what book character I am. You have to figure out who I am. The first one to reply and get it right gets ten points for Slytherin. (That was your first hint). ;)

I have no nose or hair. I'm very pale. I hate Dumbledore and Harry Potter. I have seven souls. I'm such a terrible person that I killed Harry Potter's parents.

Good job if you guess correctly!

    Sincerely,
    Chance

P.S. You can reply and get more comments for your Blog-a-thon
P.P.S. I'm not sure if it is the Blog-a-thon yet.

      Sincerely,

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

My name is Zeus. You may be thinking, "Zeus? The greek god?"
The answer to that question is yes, yes I am. I am Zeus the greek god and I am visiting from Olympus. Another question folks might ask is "Where is Olympus?" Well, I am told not to tell a mortal like you, or I will be thrown off Olympus, even though I am the king of gods.

If you didn't know, I am an immortal. Which means I can not be seen unless I want to be seen. I also have two different forms. I can be recognized from my roman personality or my greek personality. Another awesome thing that is ... well, awesome about me is that I can be at many different places at one time, therefore if someone asks "Where doth Zeus?" I can be there right away.

I live in a world of demigods, prophecies, immortals, and monsters. My parents are Cronus and Rhea. And I am the father of Ares, Hebe, Hephaestus, and Aphrodite.

Being a god is hard. You have many responsibilities and is challenged to fight monsters, and, worst of all, giants. Speaking of the devil, I am actually ordered to help my demigod child, Jason fight a giant that is named Enceladus.

What do you think you would do as a greek god?

    Your greek friend,
    Zeus

  5. Dear Mrs Yollis' class,

It's Olof, I have question for you. If Elsa ate 3 apples per day for 7 days, and Anna at 2 apples per day for 7 days, how many total apples did the sisters eat? Bonus question: how many more apples did Elsa eat than Anna?

    Cordially, your frozen blogging friend,
    Olof

    1. Dear Olof,
      Elsa ate a total of 3 x 7 = 21, and Anna ate a total of 2 x 7 = 14, so both sisters ate 21 + 14 = 35 apples. Elsa ate 21 - 14 = 7 apples more than Anna.

      Your friend,
      Chaolin

  6. @ Mrs Yollis,

I liked all of the costumes in our class! I liked how people in our class dressed up so nicely as their favorite character. they look amazing when you put them on the cover of the book or a page in the book. They look like the real person when they are dressed up.

I liked the party at the end of the day. There was a lot of interesting thing's to do and play. My favorite was candy bingo. It was really fun because I like the way you play. It is a really fun game to play.

What are you dressed up as?
What was your favorite game or activity at the party?

    Warmly,
    Allie

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

Greetings from page 303 in the Half Blood Prince.

My full name is Harry James Potter. Yes I know I am the person who survived Voldermort's Avada Kedavra Unforgivable Killing Curse.

I am the seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

I live in a world of magic.
I'm like Zeus because we both technically use magic.

Did you know I have never used an unforgivable curse in my lifetime? What character would you be if you were a Harry Potter character?

    Your magical friend,

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
I am Laura Ingals Wilder and I am the author of Little House on the Prairie . But here in the 1870's the internet is not invited yet so I could never do a green screen project in less a time machine was invented!

I love going to school, and my favorite subject is arithmetic . In the winter you can not always go to school 5 days a week because blizzards can happen. School would be canceled. If there was a blizzard where you live your school would be canceled also!

What is school like today? What is your favorite subject in school?
    Your old school friend,
    Laura Ingals Wilder

  11. Dear Mrs Yollis,

Hello, it is me again! Evie! I have some tips for you on makeup!

Step 1. Take a stroke of blush and gently wipe it on your cheeks. Don't rush it on or you might look like a pink monster and you don't want that.

Step 2. Take a little bit of glittery eye shadow and wipe it on your eye lid. Don't put too much or else it might go up to your eyebrows and your eye might look like it's bruised if it's a black or blue color.

Step 3. Lipstick. Put the lipstick on your lips or take your finger and dab it on. But don't put it on your cheeks or else you might look like a vampire. And not too red.

That's it for make up tips! I might see you next time.

    Your Make Up Friend,
    Evie

  12. Jenny (Nolan's Aunt)November 24, 2016 at 7:02 PM

    Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,

    I am Nolan's aunt. I am his mom's sister.

Nolan was just showing me all of the creative photos of the enthusiastic students taken on "Dress Like a Book Character Day." It was neat to see how realistic the poses were. I can tell that all of the students really paid attention to their poses to make the photos look very accurate.

If I had had this opportunity when I was in elementary school, I would have dressed as a character from the Boxcar Children series or The Babysitter's Club series.

I am curious to hear what other family members think they would have dressed up as when they were younger.

    Your new blogging buddy,
    Aunt Jenny
