Steps Taken to Complete this
*Turkey Takes a Vacation*
photo album

First, we read Turkey Trouble, by Wendi Silvano.  The funny fantasy follows our feathered friend as he finds out what Americans feast upon for Thanksgiving.

Second, we selected an exotic vacation location for Turkey. (If he left America over Thanksgiving break, he would not get eaten.)

Third, we researched an international landmark using reference books from Epic and Encyclopedia Britannica Online.

Fourth, we located the international landmark on Google Earth or PixaBay and took a "vacation" screenshot. Pegman was so helpful! The screenshot was uploaded to our class collaborative slide show.

Fifth, we used our facts to create a story about Turkey's time at the international landmark.

Which landmark would you like to visit?

  1. Dear Turkey,

This is an outstanding idea! You don't want to get eaten in America and you can enjoy some vacation time!

My favorite landmark is Stonehenge. I think it is interesting the way the large rocks are formed.

Where would you like to go?

  2. Dear Turkeys in Israel,

I love the photo you added to your slide! I have never see the Dome on the Rock, but I have seen domes on several buildings in America. They look beautiful from the inside and the outside.

    Is the dome real gold?

    Dear Turkeys from Mt. Everest,

I love how you are visiting Mount Everest. It is cold
but so fun and snowy! How long did it take for you to fly to the top? Or did you climb to the top?

Dear Great Wall of China turkeys,

We loved the picture of the Great Wall. Wow! It really is great!

We learned on Epic that The Great Wall of China is the longest structure made by humans. How long did it take to build Great Wall?

  7. Dear Turkeys from Israel,

I love the fact that said the Dead Sea is so salty that only microscopic organisms can live in the Dead Sea. Strange!

How many boats ever sailed on it?

  8. Dear Turkeys in Big Ben,

The photo you have on your slide is great! I like how the view is big enough that you could see all of Big Ben.

Do you know the estimate of how many people
visit Big Ben every year? We learned that Big Ben’s bells were silenced for a time during World War I.

  9. Dear Turkeys in Africa,

We like your picture and how your turkey is saying "Jambo!" to the giraffes.

Did you turkeys know that Tanzania has more than 120 different groups of people? We were wondering, how many cites are in Africa?

    Dear Turkeys in Italy,

I like the vocabulary you used. It helped the reader understand what the Colosseum is.

I learned that the Colosseum is located in the capital of Rome, Italy. I have never been there before but it looks fun! How old is the Colosseum?

    Dear Victoria Falls turkeys,

We loved your picture! Good thing we can fly because you would be on the bottom of the Zambezi River.

I saw a waterfall the other day. It was fun and beautiful, but not as big as Victoria Falls.

Did you know that they named the waterfall after Queen Victoria?

  14. Dear Turkeys from France,

I really like your picture. It is a really great sight!

I thought it was very cool that the Eiffel Tower is 984 feet tall! I also thought that it is very interesting that the Eiffel Tower was made in 1889.

How many lights are there during the night?
