Mrs. Yollis and her students ♥ to share what they are
learning and experiencing.
In an effort to include more family members in our online community, we are proclaiming:
April is Family Blogging Month!
We're inviting everyone to comment:
moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts, and cousins. We welcome friends, too!
Students will be inviting their family and friends to participate in a conversation!
Maybe we'll get some 2-point comments!
Just in case you don't know what to say, here is a video made by Mrs. Yollis' third graders. They have FIVE tips for writing a quality comment!
Who are you inviting to be a part of our online community?
Please leave a comment and introduce yourself!
Please leave a comment and introduce yourself!
Dear Mrs Yollis and your new family bloggers,
ReplyDeleteI love how your having April family blogging month. This is a wonderful way of wanting to encourage more family/friends members into your online community.
This for me as a family member has been a wonderful experience.
I would encourage everyone to give it a go. You get to meet and learn together as one. Above all it's the friendships that you make really make it special.
There is so many postives.
I am looking forward to your new family and friends participating in April family month.
From your blogging buddy,
AA.
PS Also one more thing I would like to mention enjoy this as this is a new way of learning, sharing and growing together. It really is awesome.
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of family blogging month. It encourages families to leave comments. For example, my grandpa never left a comment, and when it was the first family blogging he left a comment. I hope I get in the top three this time. Why are you having another family blogging month?
From,
Jaden
Dear Mrs. Yollis and the 3rd graders,
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by your video on how to make a quality comment. If you don't mind, I will share this with my students at my school! It will give them great ideas so they can learn to write great comments too!
I think having a family blogging month will generate a lot of visitors to your site. Then they can see the excellent work you are doing in class.
I especially like how you include the atlas, postcard and pointer with your posts about the postcard project. It really helps readers understand where the postcard is from.
Mrs. Hembree & Bulldog Readers
Dear Mrs.Yollis and her new bloggers,
ReplyDeleteI love the the family blogging month idea. It helps people learn about blogging, for example my family does not know about blogging so this is a good way of showing them how to blog. I loved being in your class last year it was a blast.I hope your new bloggers get the same feeling as me.
Love,
Jollene M.
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Family blogging month sounds like fun. I wish we could have family blogging at my school. I have a question for you and your class: Does most of your school have to have a blog or be a blogger? Or does the family members just come in your class. Is it something that only your class does? It confuses me. Keep up the good work! Happy Blogging!
From, Taylor :)
@ AA,
ReplyDeleteI ♥ Family Blogging Month as well! It is a great way for everyone to learn. Perhaps they learn from our posts or they learn about a new technology, blogging. It's a win all around! Thanks for always helping us out!
@ Jaden,
Thanks for your terrific comment complete with a specific example! You are really growing as a writer!
You asked why I'm having another Family Blogging Month. It is to encourage more family involvement. We ♥ to have people visit and comment more than once. We want family and friends to become part of our community. Having another FBM will remind families that our blog is still here and invite them to return. Also, this month has a week-long holiday in it, and often families get together during that time. It's nice to have an activity like FBM to enjoy during that time.
@ Mrs. Hembree,
Of course you can share our "How to Compose a Quality Comment" video with your students! We made it to help all bloggers become good commenters! Enjoy!
Thanks, too, for your kind words about our postcard posts! It's helped us understand where everyone is from! I'm embarrassed to say that we are behind in getting them out...but are addressing that issue this week! :-)
Thanks for all your support!
Mrs. Y♥llis
@ Jollene,
ReplyDeleteHow nice to get a comment from one of my former students! Thank you!
What are you learning right now in fourth grade? I'd love to hear about that!
@ Taylor,
Thanks so much for stopping by and for leaving a wonderful comment! :-)
You asked if many other classes at my school have blogs. We have: Mrs. Ranney, Mrs. Levy, and Ms. Daniels who have blogs. So most classes do not blog.
When we have Family Blogging Month we hope that students from my current class have their family and friends learn about our blog and hopefully leave us a comment. Actually, we want former students and friends to participate too. The more readers, the more comments, the more conversations...the more fun!
Thanks for being such a great blogger!
Your friend,
Mrs. Y♥llis
Dear Jaden,
ReplyDeleteWow! This is really cool to be involved with your school blog all the way from NY! We miss you and can't wait to look through your class blog to see what your class is doing. We do not blog in our school. Talk to you soon!
Love,
Aunt Christine, Max, and Cole
Jaden,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have a family blogging month!
I really like April because Spring is here (New York) and the baseball season is underway.
I enjoy reading the other posts and look forward to seeing you and Lexi this Summer in California.
Love,
PaPa Charlie
@ PaPa Charlie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting! Hopefully I will win family blogging month. I think I'm in the lead! I agree that it is a great idea to have family blogging month. When are you coming here in the summer?
@ Aunt Christine, Max, and Cole,
I'm happy that we are able to talk through blogging. It is exciting there is another way to talk to people besides writing letters, emailing, talking on phones, speaking face to face, and skyping. Every school should blog.
From,
Jaden
Jaden,
ReplyDeleteI am glad your class is having another family blogging month. It reminds me to check in and see what your class is learning. I am so proud of you. You have done a wonderful job on your blog. Your participation and enthusiasm is an asset to your class and school.
I miss you.
Love,
Grandma Marie
Dear Grandma Marie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment on my classroom blog. I'm also glad my class is having another family blogging month. I think that it is great that it reminds you to check in and see what my class is learning. By the way I have a new post on my blog.
Sincerely,
Jaden
Dear Mrs. Yollis and Student Bloggers:
ReplyDeleteThings sure have changed since I was in school as a student and a teacher! We would not have found the word "blog" in the dictionary. My grandsons, Ryan and Justin, have a blog through your class, and I have commented before, both on their blog and on the "general" blog, but I never see my comments, nor are there responses. So I hope you can tell me what I am doing wrong.
I have a question: How does the contest work? I read Jaden's post in which he said he hoped he'd "win." Thank you.
~Diane (aka Dodo) Pfahler
Jaden,
ReplyDeletewe have not finalized the exact dates for our visit with you this summer but hope to do so very soon.
Have you been watching the NCAA basketball championship "final four" today? I know your Dad is rooting for Butler and they won their game today. I am rooting for Kentucky.
Love,
PaPa Charlie
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love that you have another Family Blogging Month. My Family enjoyed it last time. Almost everyone in my family left a comment. Can family comment on student blogs and get a point for Family Blogging Month?
From,
Miriam
@ PaPa Charlie,
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited that you are coming this summer. You have not been here for one or two years. I heard there was a possibility that you are bringing Max and Cole. Are you bringing them? I did watch the final four. In my bracket I didn't have any teams correct in the final four. My dad was rooting for Butler and Kentucky. I was rooting for VCU and Uconn. At least I got one out of two right.
Sincerely,
Jaden
♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥
ReplyDelete@ Dodo,
Thanks so much for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment! We appreciate that!
Things have changed a lot for me as a student and a teacher! Through blogging, the walls of our classroom are flattened and everyone is invited in to share the learning.
Family Blogging Month is about including family and friends in our learning community. We do keep track of who is commenting and the top three students who have generated the most comments earn a post on this blog. To me, everyone wins because we get to meet new people and learn from them.
My hope is that the comments we collect are quality comments, and not just comments to earn a sticker. That is what I teach in my classroom, commenting on any blog is about quality, not quantity.
Thanks again for your comment and we hope you'll visit again!
Your friend,
Mrs. Y♥llis
♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥
Dear Mrs. Yollis and Tipsters,
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me about the quality comment tips.I thought your presentations and clarity in speaking were exceptional.
Your encouragement will promote more comments and interest during April family blogging month.
Panda is a very helpful resource tool.I imagined him really speaking.
Mrs. Yollis' Blog will surely interest our family's avid readers,Spanish experts and educators scattered all over the country.
Good luck Tucker,I hope you earn your own Blog.
How in the world can Mrs. Yollis be so perfectly enchanting?
How is it possible to continually bring learning to a higher level of FUN?
Thank you for caring about our children.
Grandma Grace
Jaden,
ReplyDeleteFamily Blogging month is so much fun...we are really enjoying it so far!
Cole had his very first soccer game today and did great! Then we saw cousins James, Jenna, and Anthony. We went to see the movie "Hop". Wish you could have been there too! Did you see the movie yet?
What did you & Lexi do today?
We love blogging, but can't wait to Skype with you soon too...our new cat "Sophie" likes to Skype too. Too bad she can't blog! If she could, I think she would say "Meow!".
See you soon, hope you are still in the lead! :)
Love, Aunt Christine, Max & Cole
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI remember April family blogging month. I liked it because my family got to see alot of what we were doing in class.
I miss having April family blogging month
Sincerly,
Scarlet(a former student)
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteRight now we are doing are Gold Dust or Bust play to learn about the gold rush. I hope you come and see it. I am in Mrs.Kaplan's class. If you come I hope you will enjoy it.
Love,
Jollene
Dear Mrs Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am Heather, Aaron's younger sister. I like you so much and I hope I'll be in your class when I am in third grade.
From
Heather (Aaron's sister)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteFamily Blogging Month is a great idea. It encourages everybody to participate in the blog community. Aaron and I learnd a lot from the blog posts. Thank you for your time and effort to make the great classroom blog.
Echo(Aaron's mom)
Dear Mrs Yollis and students,
ReplyDeleteWe are really excited you are having another family blogging month. We are going to ask our family members all around the country to come on and comment on your amazing blog. Its been a great way as parents to see what is going on in the classroom!
Keep up the good work!
From Ben's Mom and Dad
@ Mrs. Yollis:
ReplyDeleteThank you for your informative response. I agree with you that quality over quantity is generally preferable.
I also wanted to make one correction in my post, which you already knew but were too polite to point out: Justin is in another class; somehow I thought his and Ryan's Brothers' Blog was under your auspices.
Best,~Dodo
Dear Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI never imagined I would someday be e-mailing and now blogging with you. I think family blogging month is a wonderful idea and am happy to participate. I watched the video on how to write a quality comment. I learned from it, and it was fun to see you in it. Did you rehearse your part? You seemed relaxed.
Thank you for telling me about family blogging month.
Love from Dodo
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of Family Blogging Month! It is a great way to interact with family and friends all around the world!
My idea to get my family to comment is to send out an email to all family and friends. Maybe from different states.
Also, I like to see all the conversations going on from mother to daughter, father to son, and so on.
It really encourages me to keep on commenting on blogs. I want to be a master blogger like you some day!
Warmly,
Grace♥
@ Aunt Christine,
ReplyDeleteI am also really enjoying family blogging month. I'm enjoying that I am able to talk to my family members on the other side of the country!
It is very suprising that Cole had his first soccer game yesterday because Lexi had her first soccer game about a month ago. Yesterday I saw Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. I have not seen Hop yet.
Lexi had two soccer games yesterday. She scored a goal in the second one. As I told you I went to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.
You have a new cat named Sophie! Is that the one that lives outside? If she could blog I think she would leave the whole screen blank.
I also hope I am still in the lead!:)
Sincerely,
Jaden
@ Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of another family blogging month. It gets Jaden excited again and gets all of our family active and participating in an educational activity. I also like that it lets family members that don't live in our house a glimpse into what the kids are doing in school.
@ Jaden,
I love your excitement and enthusiasm in these class projects. As always, I am very proud of you!
Warmly,
Marcie (Jaden's Mom)
Dear Ms. Yollis' Class,
ReplyDeleteRecently I was at a conference where Ms. Yollis and Ms Ranney were presenting. It was a fantastic workshop and I learned a great deal about what you are doing this year. My favorite was the Uganaden Global Project. It was touching to see students caring for students. Your blog site is definitely world class and we are very proud of the way you are representing our district. Keep up the good work. DOI Rose
Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,
ReplyDeleteI am really excited for family blogging month! Last time my mom and sister left some beautiful comments☺. I am hoping more relatives like grandparents and parents will leave more fantastic comments. Sometimes it is hard to tell then to comment because some relatives are busy.
Your student,
Kristen
Dear Mrs.Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI’m exited for Family Blogging month because my grandma already left couple comments on the blog.
I love leaving comments on the blog because it’s the best.
I hope I win Family Blogging month because it is a chance for me to earn a blog.
Some of my family has already commented.
Good luck every one,
Tucker
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am really excited of the experience of Family Blogging Month! Last time it was family blogging month, not many of my relatives had commented. I was very bummed out when that happened. I know now that I really need to get all my relatives involved in everything that there is to do! I will use my moms e-mail, when I see them ask them to comment, there are so many more that if I were to say the other things, the comment would not fit in the box!
My sister wants to be a journalist, so this would be the perfect place for her to practice.
Sincerely,
Iman
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about Family Blogging Month! I am hoping most of my relatives comment on our blog. My mom, dad, and sister commented last Family Blogging Month, but maybe we’ll get a comment from my dog!
I won third place in Family Blogging Month in November, and I hope I can win second place or maybe even first! I really enjoyed making my post, so I hope I win again.
Your student,
Hannah
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see another family blogging opportunity. I will surely spread the word to all of Alexa's family and close friends.
Today was a heavy day for me as I said goodbye to Rachel and her 5th grade class as they ventured off for their week away from home at outdoor ed. Though Alexa and I will miss Rachel a lot this week, it is nice to have a little more time to connect with Alexa on this classroom blog.
I look forward to navigating through all the wonderful posts and finding several of interest to comment on. See you soon!
Warmly,
Lori (Alexa's mom)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteHi I am Ryan's brother Justin.
I am glad that we have family blogging month, because I like my family relatives to spread some information about them.
I hope to comment some more!
All the Best,
Justin
Dear Jaden,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that your class is having another family blogging month. It seems like it has really encouraged people to get active and start blogging again. I think you are really lucky to be learning blogging skills this early in your life.
Love,
Dad
@Dodo,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you left a comment! The "win" thing just meant that the students in our classroom are leaving quality comments. When you or your relatives leave a comment, you get a sticker.
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you: Welcome to the World of Blogging. This is an online internet website that people all over the world can view. You can leave a comment and read posts!
Happy Blogging!
From,
Ryan
Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of family blogging as a way to get families involved.
Finn and I have asked family members to participate in the past, but only one or two relatives have posted comments.
Although Finn has many family members who love and adore him, some of them may not do the posting, even if we ask them to. They might not get the whole blogging thing. I am going to ask Finns family to make comments and I will tell them to go to the instructional video by Adia and Hannah and the other kids. Hopefully the instructional video will help them better understand blogging and how to post a comment.
My favorite blog right now is foodyear.wordpress.com.
Does your class ever go to food blogs?
From, Whitney aka. Finn's mom
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteThe timing of this opportunity was unexpected!
I would have never thought that this family blogging would be so amazing! I wonder, who gave you the idea of family blogging month?
Hopefully, we will learn other information from everyone else!
Sincerely,
Iman
Dear Alexa,
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with all that you are doing in class and especially by the blogging you can do!! You have quickly become an expert with the computer, and have already taught me so many interesting things!!
I am looking forward to seeing what's next.
Love
Dad
Dear Mrs. Yollis & Class,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to teach about technology and new ways to communicate with your family, friends & even make new friends around the world. Your class is not only learning to communicate but also to type. How great!!!
I loved the tutorial video, it really helped me get to know what blogging is and how to blog. I plan to research blogging further and expand my blogging horizon. Thank you all for teaching me something new today.
Love, Uncle Cole (Finn's Family)
Dear Mrs. Yollis and the 3rd graders,
ReplyDeleteFamily blogging month is a great idea. We will do some fun family programs this month in our house and make this a FAMILY MONTH all together. Maybe we can arrange for families to have a beach day this weekend.
Thanks for all the hardwork. The kids are really learning tons by doing this type of communicating.
All the best
Howard
@ Dad,
ReplyDeleteI also think that it is great that my class is having another family blogging month. It definitely is encouraging people to comment! I'm really lucky to be learning this in my early life.
From,
Jaden
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I like that you reintroduced how to leave a comment. I especially enjoy the little video that explains about commenting.
I think everyone spoke extremely fluently and clearly. There was a flow that I could feel. The speakers did a great job.
Do you think that they spoke fluently?
Warmly,
Grace :)
@ Ryan and Justin,
ReplyDeleteSo, here we now are blogging together. Justin, I am glad to see that you left a comment. What pfamily pfun! Now all you need to do is get Ali, your mom and dad, Grandpa Steve, Grammy Lynn, Grandpy Ken, Mimi, Auttie, and Champ to join in.
I will see you soon (tomorrow). Love, Dodo
Dear Grace,
ReplyDeleteI also love the idea of family blogging month! In my opinion family blogging month is the best way to interact with family and friends.
You said that your idea is to send an email to your family and friends. That is exactly what I did! I've been having conversations going on with my Grandpa, my cousins Max and Cole, and my aunt Christine!
From,
Jaden
@ Dodo,
ReplyDeleteThank you for replying back to me. How are you enjoying the learning of blogging? I am glad that you now see your comments getting published, and that you understand the concept of blogging.
I'm curious, what do you enjoy about blogging? I could name many reasons why, but I think some main ones are it helps you with your reading and your writing skills. Plus, it couldn’t be more fun! Too bad that when you were a teacher, blogging wasn’t invented yet, because you could have started a wonderful blog.
Love,
Ryan
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of family blogging month being this month because we have one whole week of spring break to comment.
I hope to get my family to leave some perfect, quality comments soon. Also, I think that we will get 50 or 100 comments on this post.
Does any one else have a prediction?
From,
Amitai
Dear Grandma,
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment on our blog. I hope you do it more often. It is great that you left a quality comment, because Mrs.Yollis LOVES those kind of comments.I do too!
If you leave more comments, I would give you a big hug and a kiss when I see you.
From,
Nicolas your grandson
@ AA,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a fabulous comment. Family Blogging is always lots of fun.
What I like about Family Blogging Month is that you get to meet and learn from other people.
Have a good time commenting!
Your Blogging Buddy,
Miriam
Dear Mom,
ReplyDeleteWow! you have been getting great at commenting! I'm very impressed that you and dad took the time to leave a comment on Mrs. Yollis' classroom blog. Thanks mom and dad. It means a lot to me.
Yes, I do miss Rachel, but I am also happy that she is gone because my class, and I get to use the fifth grade laptops. In fact, I'm typing to you on the fifth grade laptops right now. Its fun typing on top of the laptops.
Back to Rachel, I am so excited to see her when she comes home, and I want to hear all about Outdoor E.d. I also wonder if her hair is dirty. Its funny when you said that you don't care if her hair gets dirty because you are so strict about keeping hair clean.
Sincerely,
Your daughter ~ Alexa :)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see who wins! I hope I win, but if I don't I'll still be happy for whomever wins. I get people to comment by calling, Emailing, and sending a letter to a far away family member.
I have a question.
*Who is winning so far?
Warmly,
Ileanna :0)r
@ Grandma,
ReplyDeletePanda is a pretty good friend of mine, and helpful too. However, I do agree with you that Panda should have talked.
Mrs. Yollis is a really good teacher, and not only does she like technology, but I do too. She also got every one else to love technology too.
I just learned that both of us are thinking the wrong thing you don't earn a blog by wining Family Blogging Month. In order to earn a blog, you have to do your homework, comment regularly, and have good citizenship.
From,
Tucker

ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Yollis,
I am always so excited when it is Family Blogging Month! I am looking forward to seeing who will be in the top three!
I hope that this FBM I will be in the top three again! But on the other hand, I would like to give other people a chance to win. Still, I am determined! :)
My family has been commenting a lot, and I think the family member of mine that has been commenting the most is my supportive mom! She also thinks that this is a wonderful experience! Soon, I will lead Stefan, my brother, to the Great Kapok Tree. Make sure to tune in to see Stefan's soon to be comment. A few days ago, I emailed all my relatives a link to comment on our class blog, and also my blog. So also, tune in to see their comments, too. :) :)
What a wonderful program this is! Thank you!
Your student,
Adia

@ Howard,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful comment. Yes, we are learning lots from blogging, and I also agree that Family Blogging Month is a great idea. Some of us are trying to get 100 comments on this post, but the comments don’t count, it’s the quality that does.
Blogging is wondeful because you can type comments instead of writing things down on a sheet of paper. Family Blogging Month is a great idea because you can meet your family members on the blog, and maybe even get a conversation going.
What inspired you to leave a comment?
From,
Ryan
@ Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI just re-read one of your comments in which you wrote: "When you or your relatives leave a comment, you get a sticker." What does that mean? Is there a contest in your class regarding the number of stickers? Do you win something or earn a special privilege? Or is it just to see who gets the most comments?
I'm looking forward to your response.
From Your Loving Dodo
Hello Tucker,classmates and Mrs Yollis,
ReplyDeleteSince Jane, Grandma Grace, has been such an active blogger I decided to investigate your class blog for myself. It was quite fascinating reading all the comments, it gave me a new perspective on blogging. I was especially impressed with the world wide reach of your class room blog. Comments from people from so many different countries.
It is very different from my experience of being in the third grade. It was 1956 and computers were the size of your class room and less powerful then a pocket calculator is today. Telephones were attached to the wall by a wire and to call someone you had to dial the number using a rotary dial. Our TV was black and white and their were only five channels.
Things have certainly changed in the past fifty or so years, it makes me wonder what you kids will be blogging to your grandchildren in fifty years.
Grandpa Grace aka Papa G
Dear Alexa,
ReplyDeleteI was so impressed by your comment back to me. Thank you for writing.
Yes, it is interesting that I told Rachel she could forego washing her hair this week. While I prefer my children to bathe daily, and wash their her regularly, outdoor education week is an exception. I know lice runs rampant during outdoor ed, and lice tends to attach to clean and not dirty hair. Therefore, I don't mind Rachel's hair getting dirty if it will keep the lice away. See...the benefit of not getting lice outweighs the risk of a few days of dirty hair.
I'm glad to read you miss your sister; I miss her, too! I hope you tell her how much you've missed her when she comes home on Friday. Maybe the two of you can have some special sister time together over the weekend. I'm sure you both have a lot of catching up to do!
Have fun at school, and keep writing. Your comments are very interesting and creative. I'll keep a look-out for your future posts.
Love you Alexa!
xo
Mommy
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI think Family Blogging Month is a great idea because, kids and families get to comment on lots of good posts. If I win Family Blogging Month, I will write about track. If I can earn a blog, than I will write a post about Family Blogging Month.
How does it feel to have your own blog?
From,
Andrew
Hello Ryan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting to my comment. I love to communicate this way, through a blog. This helps everyone work on their typing skills.
I commented on this topic because Finn told me about it. He wanted me to get involved with the blog. I am glad he did.
Now you know.
I have a question to ask the class.
What do you like most about blogging?
Let me know.
Howard
Dear Mrs. Y♥llis and Class,
ReplyDeleteHi, I am Ethan (Amitai's brother) in Mrs. Levy class. We have a blog too, so you can comment to us and we can comment back to you.
We just made a post about our ten-thousand visits! You have 53,526 visits. I hope that my class will get there some day. Here is a link to our classroom blog:
http://mrslevysfirstgradeclass.blogspot.com/
I am happy to see that you are having family blogging month. I want to have a family blogging month on my classroom blog too.
From,
Ethan (Amitai’s brother)
Dear Mrs. Yollis & Class,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see that we're having family blogging month again.
Although our family had a late start with the blogging, we are looking forward to having family members comment from all around the world. Amitai and I recently discovered that we have family members living in three different continents!
What a great way to bring families together in learning and meeting new people from all over the globe.
Great work and good luck everyone.
Love,
Rebecca (Amitai's Mom)
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI really hope that this family blogging month is much longer than the one in November. That way the comments on the family blogging chart will make you have to get about three different charts. That would make me smile so large I don't even know how much my mouth would hurt!
When I was trying to look at the comments on this posts no matter how much I scouted, I still did not find the comment that I was looking for.:-[
Sincerely,
Iman
@ Howard,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a thoughtful reply. That is a good question you ask about blogging. I would have many answers, but then the list would go on forever. Here are some of my favorite reasons why blogging can be a fabulous thing:
1). Blogging is like a book, but so much more fun. You get to read posts, and you can read comments, too. You might even learn a few new things!
2). Grammar is a thing that you will get better at because you can publish comment, and enjoy it at the same time! Also, you can type your comment in Word, use the grammar and spelling tool, and then get the readability statistics. I once improved my readability from a 3.1 to a 5.7! High level vocabulary made all the difference!
3). Blogging really changes your life. It gives you a wonderful hobby to think about and learn from.
Why are you glad Finn told you about blogging?
From,
Ryan
Dear Gracie, Thank you for including us in "April is Family Blogging Month". I am learning new things about your class and what you are doing. We love the blog and want to continue communicating through it. What is your next project going to be? XOXO Nana
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to get to 100 comments, but we got 67 right now. Everyone comment on this post more so we can get 100. We only need 33 more so go and when you have the time comment!
From,
Amitai
♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥ ☺ ♥
ReplyDelete@ Everyone! :-)
Thanks so much for all the support you give to our blog! We genuinely appreciate your readership!
@ Iman,
Thanks so much for your quality comments! I can tell that you are composing a few of them in Word because they seem to have high readability statistics!
You asked,"Who gave you the idea of family blogging month?" The answer is...I created Family Blogging Month! I thought it would be a good idea to dedicate a whole month toward encouraging parents, family, and friends to become part of our online learning community! I love it! Is the idea working? :-)
@ Amitai,
You have set a goal of 100 comments for this post. Well, we are doing decimals right now...so we have
67/100 of your goal met!
What decimal is left? How would you say our current decimal in word form? How would you write it as a decimal?

ReplyDeleteNice to see you at school today.
You communicate so well in your blog poets. . If Finn didn't let me know about blogging you and I wouldn't be having this conversation. I like our posts.
What other blogs have you read?
Howard
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea family blogging month is! In my opinion, this is one of your best ideas that you may ever come up with! I am sure that there will be a lot of commenting, facts, and even some comments from people that we have never even thought exist! (Not to be offensive.)
The first reason I like family blogging month is because how many times do you get comments from not our regular commenters, but people like grandparents, parents, siblings, and even ourselves!
The second reason I like family blogging month is because when ever someone leaves a comment, if you are extra lucky you may be able to have the wonderful experience of getting featured on a blog post!
The third reason I like family blogging month is because it is just plain old fun! The excitement of it is in my veins just waiting to burst!
Sincerely,
Iman
Dear Tucker,
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised. You will need to step up to the plate and knock the ball out of the park, in order to earn a blog.
Homework, class participation and citizenship will all contribute to the success Mrs. Yollis is guiding you towards.
I believe you have gained a greater understanding of yourself this year. There are no limits to what you can achieve. If you put in the time and energy, you will end up with a grand slam, a slam dunk and a proud grandma!
I am so impressed with your progress.
Do you have any projects in the works? Any questions you need answered?
La escuela es muy importante.
Bueno Noche,
Grandma Grace
@ Howard,
ReplyDeleteThank you for a reply and your wonderful comments. You better thank Finn because he introduced you to blogging, and if he didn’t, you would not experience what it is like to blog. Blogging inspired me to meet new people and really get a feeling of the Internet. It feels great to be having a conversation with you, and I have learned so much. This has been a great conversation, and I hope it continues. I also have a conversation with my grandma right now.
Has blogging changed your life? How?
From,
Ryan

Dear Mrs. Yollis and third graders,
ReplyDeleteI am a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. This is such a great blog! I love the idea of April Family Blogging Month idea. What a great way to get family and friends involved! I have looked through your blog and am amazed at what all I have learned from just glancing over it. The "How to Comment" video was awesome and very clear. It was helpful and to the point. I know that you have been doing this for over 20 years, Mrs. Yollis. I bet that you have been through many trials and errors to perfect this in your classroom. That makes it even more neat when you consider how much it takes to get thee glitches out.
My blog is not near as involved as this. I would love for it to be! One of my favorite things on your blog that I still use when I forget, is yout HTML code instructions. I had it bookmarked on my computer for a while so I could just go back and look at it when I needed it.
Mrs. Yollis, you and your students inspire me in so many ways! I want to be a teacher that mirrors your involvement with your students and parents. I also want students like you have. They are so eager to learn it seems like! What a way to reach out to the rest of the world! Keep up the great blogging. I am so impressed with this. You can count on future comments from me! If you want to look over at my blog, feel free! yorksarahedm310.blogspot.com

Dear Mrs. Yollis and fellow bloggers,
ReplyDeleteI am a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. I was assigned to thoroughly review your blog; however, I think I will keep coming back to it for future reference. This blog is so creative and very involved. I admire how you invite the parents to be involved, especially during Family Blogging Month.
The kids are doing such a great job with commenting and the blog. After seeing a blog like this, I can't wait to get in my own classroom and get my children involved with blogging!
Great job!
Amanda

ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Yollis and 3rd grade class,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading through this blog post. I think it's great that there is a month set aside for families, because family is a an important aspect of everyone's life. I think it's great that so many students of all ages are beginning to blog regularly. I am a junior in college and this is the first semester that I have been involved with blogging. I wish that I would have had teachers that showed me how to blog in grade school. I think that I would have enjoyed it. You all seem to be doing a good job so keep at it.
Best wishes,
Colby
Dear Mrs. Yollis and your awesome, blogging 3rd graders,
ReplyDeleteMy name is, Kelly Evans. I am a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class at, The University of South Alabama.
I loved your video! It was informative and so much fun to watch. You all did a great job presenting your information.
I think it is fantastic that you have created a family blogging month. What a unique way to get your family and friends involved with your day-to-day classroom activities!
As a future teacher, I am very interested in having my own classroom blog and was wondering, how often do you all get to blog? Do you have a set time of day to do it?
I have enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to keeping up with you through an rss feed.
Sincerely,
Kelly Evans
Dear Mrs. Yollis and third graders,
ReplyDeleteI am a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. I love the idea of April Family Blogging Month. It is such a great way to get students and their family and friends involved. Hopefully by parents commenting and telling other people about what their child classroom is like, maybe then other parents will ask their kids teacher to do the same. I can only wish to incorporate all that you have into my very own classroom. Thank You for sharing your blog with us. I really enjoyed reading it!
Dear Mrs. Yollis and her class,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Brent LaForce and I am in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 Class at The University of South Alabama. I just want to say that I think that this is a great blog. I like your family blogging month idea, because it gets everyone involved and helps also to get people interested in this form of technology.
Mrs. Yollis and class,
ReplyDeleteI would like to compliment your class on the excellent work you are doing with your posts.
Family Blogging Month is a great way to connect with family and friends. The visits to your blog by my EDM310 classmates and I are proof of that. It's exciting to see so many people connecting.
Your video tips for "quality comments" were so helpful to me. You taught me to use more words to show my excitement, not exclamation points.
I will be teaching English/Language Arts to middle and high school students. With your permission, I would like to use your video in my future class blog. It was informative, articulate and full of personality!
How exciting is it to know that your video will be shared again and again to teach others?
Keep on sharing,
Amanda
Hello, Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kenny and I am from Dr. Strange's EDM 310 course. I love that your students and their families are involved in this process. It gives everyone a chance to connect with relatives and broadens his or her possibilities.
I am almost 30-years old and I would love to connect my parents to some of the work I do, but it just doesn't seem possible. I am so happy to say that I love this idea and think that everyone will benefit from this process. The kids will show off their skills and try to impress their relatives, which may increase their performance.
Commenting is always great; especially to help the kids get better at whatever it may be. I always enjoy constructive commenting on my blog since I love to learn, and I am sure your students enjoy learning from this type of feedback, as well.
Mrs. Yollis, I have used your blog extensively this semester and I will continue to do so. I have your HTML instructional page plugged into my PLN just in case I cannot remember it. Thank you so much for making my learning process so much easier.
Kenny

ReplyDeleteMrs. Yollis and her class,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Brittany Pittman and I am a student in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 Class at the University of South Alabama. Currently, I am getting my degree in Elementary Education and hope to achieve a Masters in Art Education.
I love how organized you are and hope to be able to organize my classroom blog in a similar style. I really enjoyed reading several of your blogs. I have learned so many new techniques and use them often in Dr. Strange’s EDM 3l0 Class. Your HTML lesson has helped me quite often and I have added it to my PLN for future use.
It is very inspiring how dedicated you are not only to your students but their families also. The quality comments posted by students and parents are awesome. I would love to get my future students parents involved, as you have, because I believe this is very important in a student’s learning achievements.
@Ryan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for responding to my April 6 comment. I agree with you that blogging is an excellent way to practice writing and grammar skills. I also would like to see young people your age learn touch-typing at the same time they are learning about blogging. Incorrect typing habits can be hard to break later.
Ryan, I asked some questions in my April 6 post regarding the stickers you said you receive and some related questions. Perhaps you can answer them after Spring Break, which is occurring now. ~Your Loving Dodo
@Mrs. Yollis:
I don't know how you find the time to prepare lessons, execute them, moderate this blog, and do extracurricular activities in your own life! In a word, wow!
One question: I notice some blogs do have grammatical errors and such. Because these comments are an ideal way to reinforce good English skills (as Ryan and I have touched on), do you discuss these privately with the bloggers who also are your students? Do you purposely not edit those with grammatical or punctuation errors? Or is it the time factor? How many more questions do I get? :-)
~Ryan's Dodo
I'm disappointed to not see other members of our family participate here.
I was wondering how the family blogging was going for you. I don't see other family members' posts.
@ Dodo,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words and your dedication to our blog! We love having you visit and enjoy reading your comments. Like you, Ryan is a gifted writer and blogging has really brought out that talent!
You asked about the grammatical errors in some comments. If it comes from one of my students, together we try to correct it. I publish the comment, the student copies it, fixes it, and publishes it again. I then go in and delete the old comment. However, time is certainly an issue for me! Our blog has quite a following now, which makes me exceedingly happy, but it is sometimes very difficult to write back to all. Responding to all commenters is important for a blog's growth, but balancing work with my personal life is also important. :-)
If the comment is from someone outside of our classroom, we usually publish it.
ALL of my students are suppose to have a parent check their comment before they publish. If a student is clearly not doing that, I copy the comment to an email and send it to the parents. In the letter, I encourage the parents to help with the writing. Practicing poor writing skills reinforces poor writing! I want students practicing correctly! That's how a child improves.
We also talk in class about being human. I tell the students that they should always proofread their comment before publishing because words get left out or typing errors occur. We look the comments over, and if it is just a little error or two, we let it go. We also look for patterns in people. If the same student continues to make the same errors, we are less tolerant and insist the student make more of an effort. They usually do! :-)
I type so many comments on our blog and on other class blogs... I know I sometimes make errors. I just accept it as it is going to happen from time to time and not let it hinder my commenting. :-)
I wish everyone would participate in the blog. However, I know that doesn't happen. I choose to look at all the people who do and am so grateful for them! Everyone wins when there is family involvement!
Thanks, again, for your support!
:-)
Sincerely,
Mrs. Y♥llis
P.S. Everyone gets as many questions as they like!
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteAmitai tells me that you have an awesome blog and that I should comment on it.
My name is Sara and I am Amitai's cousin. We're the best of buds. We're like two peas in a pod.
I am in the tenth grade at my school. Amitai wants me to talk about what it's like in the tenth grade, so here it goes... It's a fun grade to be in because you don't need to worry about college and graduation. Also, I get to hang out with my friends inside and outside of the classroom.
Some of the teachers are also cool and inspiring, but not all. So tell me Mrs. Yollis, are you one of those inspiring teachers I'm talking about?
Sincerely,
Sara
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI am so close with my guess of 100 comments on this post. We are at 97 comments! All we need is three comments and we have...100!
From,
Amitai
@ Sara, (Amitai's cousin!)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your excellent comment! Welcome to our blog! :-)
You mentioned that some of your teachers are cool and inspiring and you asked me if I am?
I'm curious, what characteristics make for a cool and inspiring teacher? I'm also wondering if you use much technology in your classroom or for projects you submit to teachers?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Y♥llis
@Mrs. Yollis:
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your thoughtful and sensible response. I want to be in your class! ~Dodo
Hi Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteI like your concept of D.E.A.R Drop Everything and Read. Reading is such an important element in children lives. I also like your Family Blogging Month. What an awesome blog. I love when teachers encourage parent involvement. It turly makes a difference in the students when parents are involved with their learning. All of your pictures are amazing! You didn't mention anything about being a photographer. I would definitely say you have the skills. Thank you for allowing me to view your blog. I am a student at the University of South Alabama in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. My class blog is landrumshirleyedm310blogspot.com
Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Matthew Poirier and I am a student at the University of South Alabama in Dr. Strange's EDM310 class. I thoroughly enjoyed navigating your blog. If only more blogs existed in cyber-world that were more like this one! It's family-friendly, with activities appealing to young and old alike, for instance the family blogging month. I am aware that many people have already commented as well as complimented you on that particular section, which I think is appropriate; it's amazing! I come from a big family (8 in total!), and now that many of us are growing up (the youngest just turned 14), it is difficult at times to maintain connectivity, what with one person being at one place and another person being at a different place... It gets chaotic on occasion, but a family blogging activity would be ideal for all of us to participate in. I will inform them of this!
My sincerest thanks, and happy blogging!
P.S. I know Easter is coming up soon... so all of you have a Happy Easter as well!
-Matthew P
@ Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteThanks for saying that my comment was awesome; Amitai thought so too.
Well, some characteristics of an awesome and inspiring teacher would be that he or she is cool with the students and not only teaches well, but jokes around with the students and likes to tell stories in class.
I have a teacher who knows how to take apart four different cars and put them back together again! He is very smart and tells us stories about his life and daughter.
Speaking of school, the technology we use isn't anything special, just computers in the computer classrooms and library.
Well, there you have it... Have you decided if you are one of those teachers yet?
Cool beans and sincerely,
Sara
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteWe did it! We got 100 comments, but right now we have 103 so we actually beat our recorded!
I think that if we got to 103 that we can get to 200, but we have to keep up all of the quality comments that we created again. Good luck!
Does any one else agree that we might get 200?
From,
Amitai
Ms. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Courtney and I am an EDM 310 student. I love this idea of Family Blogging Month. I think it is a great idea to get parents involved. If I were a parent I would be very thrilled to be able to comment on my child's blog. It is a great way to get family involvement in the students' school!
Ben:
ReplyDeleteYesterday in Rockville, Maryland it was 85 degrees. The sun was shinning brightly. With these conditions the golf course was calling me. Do not tell Gram because I was suppose to be somewere else.
I went to the golf course and carried my golf clubs and bag for nine holes. It was great. I wish you could have been here. You would have had a lot of fun.
There were very few people on the course and I could hit as many shots as I wanted.
Maybe the next time that you come to Maryland we can go play golf together.
Gramdad
Dear Iman,
ReplyDeleteIn response to your April 4th comment I have to say that it warms my heart to witness your enthusiasm towards the family blogging month. I immensly enjoyed reading most of the family members' blogs and learned a little from each of them. I am so glad for the opportunity to link differnt people from different parts of the world in one community such as your classroom blog. You sure can learn a lot and see the world through other people's eyes.
I hope your enthusiam for reading and learning will guide you throughout your school career.
Keep reaching for the stars!
love you,
Mom
@ Ryan ~
ReplyDeleteIt's still April, so I am getting in one more comment. Do you know when the next family blogging month will be? I know you will let me know. Until then, see you in our e-mails.
Love, Dodo
@Dodo,
ReplyDeleteOh Well, it’s not April anymore. I am afraid there will be no more Family Blogging Months because next year I am going to 4th grade, and Mrs. Yollis will no longer be my wonderful teacher. Even though there will be no more Family Bloggings, we can still blog. I hope you continue with me in the world of blogging. (;
Love,
Ryan
@Ryan~
ReplyDeleteI will continue with you in whatever world you're in because you are M-D-D-R-O-M-L!
