In our polygon unit we are learning about four-sided figures called
QUADRILATERALS!
Many people were confused about why some shapes have more than one name. Here are some tutorials to help you learn about quadrilaterals.

What is a parallelogram?
Here is an interactive parallelogram.

What is a rectangle?
Here is an interactive rectangle.

What is a rhombus?

Dear Mrs.Yollis
ReplyDeleteI thought the movie was terrific you did a realy good job! I think the most common shape is the square and it is my favorite shape.
Love,
Anais
Dear Mrs. Yollis,
ReplyDeleteNo, I have not used the tutorials. My favorite interactive shape that you hyper linked to is the rectangle because you can make it skinny, fat, large, and small. What was your favorite video and favorite interactive shape?
Sincerely,
Nick
@ Anais,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment! I love the square, too! I like the square the best because it is a parallelogram, a special rhombus, a rectangle, and a square.
@ Nick,
Thanks for using the hyperlinks!
You asked which interactive hyperlink was my favorite. I like the parallelogram the best. Like you with the rectangle, I like to make it wide and then tall. Because it doesn't have the right angles, it looks interesting to me.
Happy classifying!
Mrs. Yollis
Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,
ReplyDeleteThanks for another fantastic post! I watched the tutorials and enjoyed them all. My favorite was the square because it is all of the quadrilaterals in one!
My favorite interactive link was the parallelogram. I liked the way it was slanted and you could make it into all different dimensions, even flip it upside down!
We just added a post about polygons, and I'm afraid it is not quite as exciting as your geometry posts, but it focuses on shapes in daily life. I also linked to this post in our post. Your tutorials will help us understand the fascinating world of quadrilaterals. Thanks!
Your friend,
Mr. Salsich
Dear Mrs Yollis and grade 3 students I really liked the video you made. You all did a good job on your project. My favourite shape is the rectangle and the square.
ReplyDeleteSincerely Bianca 2KM
@ Mr. Salsich,
ReplyDeleteI love the square as well! There's just something about it being so many different names.
The interactive sites are fun to play with too! What we noticed in our class is that people either liked right angles and went for the interactive square or rectangle, while others liked how the interactive parallelogram kept the slant. Different shapes for different folks!
We enjoyed your shape post. The picture of the house with all the triangles and rectangles was really interesting.
From,
Mrs. Yollis
Hi Mrs Yollis
ReplyDeleteI've seen your blog and I find it really fascinating because there are lots of educatinal games such as math and geography. I can't wait to see more fun stuff.
Bye Mrs Yollis
Hello! I'm Caitlyn Warnberg. I'm a student in Dr. Strange's EDM 310 class. I thought your tutorial videos were a really neat idea!

Dear Mrs. Yollis and Students,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous blog you have. I just watched the tutorials and I can't wait to go to school tomorrow to show my third grade class.
I especially love the square and the comment that one student made about the square being,"A celebrity polygon." I agree. The tutorials will be a great review for our upcoming benchmark test. Thanks so much for making them.
Your class has really inspired me to do wonderful things with my class. We just received our new netbooks last week and I'm eager to try new things with my students. I'll be subscribing to your blog and watching what you are up to...and hopefully we'll have a fabulous blog just like yours very soon.
Keep up the great work!
Love,
Mrs. McKelvey
