Let's Visit Our Blogging Buddies: Meet Mrs. Yollis' Class

Mrs. Yollis' class enjoys sharing and learning with other classes. This year, they are QUAD buddies with three other classes!

These classes read about Quad blogging from Mr. Mitchell. The concept:  four blogging classes come together and learn about one another one week at a time. The alliance will help each class increase their readership while flattening their classroom walls and learning about the wonderful world we live in.

This week, let's meet Mrs. Yollis' third graders from California! We are a group of 11 girls and 12 boys!

We Blogging!

  1. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

You and your Quad buddies are just amazing.
It so wonderful the great friendships you have formed. Not only that but how you are all learning together as one.
I think this is just awesome.

If you had to pick out one thing about your quad buddies that makes them so special what would it be.

    Your blogging buddy,
    AA.

  2. @ AA,

Thanks so much for your constant support! We ♥ you!

I'd never heard of quad-blogging until... Mrs. Morris and Miss Jordan suggested it!

The friendships that have been formed through blogging are simply amazing. I left a comment for Bianca on her Snowflake post! How cute is her mascot!

You asked what makes my blogging buddies special. I would have to say their enthusiasm for trying new things. I love to experiment and then reflect on what was good and what didn't work...my buddies like to do that too!

    Have a great day!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

  3. Dear Mrs Yollis' class,

I'm so glad our Quad Blogging project has begun!

I have just posted about your blog on the 2KM and 2KJ blog.

I hope you get lots of visitors from the 2KM and 2KJ community. I have reminded them to let you know where they're from.

I agree with you that we both like reflecting on what we're doing to try to improve it all the time. I think that's a good thing for teachers to do. I'm glad you love trying new things too.

Here is a good saying "if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got!"

    Happy quad blogging!

    Your pal,
    Mrs Morris

  4. Dear Mrs Yollis,

I am so glad we are doing this Quad Blogging project together. It is perfect for 2KJ and 2KM because we have just started school and it's a fabulous way for our students to meet you!

Everyone in 2KJ and 2KM loved skyping with you on the last day of 2010 and it was a great way for you to begin a friendship with our new students.

You and your students are blogging role models for us and I can't wait for our students to learn from you.

I also hope Panda and Leo become good friends soon!

    Your blogging pal,
    Miss Jordan

    @ Mrs. Morris,

It is exciting to begin the new project! I agree that it is important to let people know where you are from. A big part of blogging is getting know your readers. If you don't know where they are from, it makes it more difficult.

Yes, trying new ideas and thinking about what worked and what didn't is part of the process of growing and learning. Glad we all found each other!

    Happy blogging!

    @ Miss Jordan,

I ♥ the idea too! I know that 2KJ & 2KM and Open the Door to B4 are just starting the school year. I thought it was the perfect time to share the videos we made this year. It was also fun because ALL of you are mentioned in our Blogging is Learning video!

What a treat it was to Skype with all of you last year! It is hard to believe that your summer is almost over!

Thanks for your kind words about us. We work very hard on our writing and try to consistently write quality comments. We're so happy that you notice our efforts!

We are so thrilled to be quad-blogging with you and 2KM/2KJ and Mr Salsich's class.
We have learned so much from you all already.

One of the things I love about your blog are the handy teaching videos that you and the children make. We can see that your students really understand the message they are trying to get across to the viewers.

We look forward to a lot more blogging together.

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I have never done quad blogging before, but I bet I'll love it! What you learn from quad blogging, is getting to know other blogging classes.

I am super excited to do the quad blogging with 2KM, 2KJ, Mr. Salsich's class, and B4.

I just checked the 2KM and 2KJ blog, and I am so amazed with the comments that the second graders write! They are some very lucky students to be able to be in a wonderful class with Mrs. Morris and Miss Jordan.

    Warmly,

  10. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

I'm from Leopold, Australia and am in Mrs Morris class.

I really enjoyed watching the videos you made about blogging as I'm still learning how it all works.

My Mum lived in America for a year when she was young and she showed me photos of her trip. I loved the photos of Disneyland and think you're very lucky to live near there as I really want to go.

I am looking forward to learning more about where you live.

Welcome to our blog! You and my student, Adia, are the first two students to comment on our Quad-Blogging project.

I am so glad that you enjoyed our videos! What was one thing that you learned about commenting that you liked?

Already, I like that you made a connection. You said that your mom lived in America for a year. I'm curious, where did your mom live for that year? What did she enjoy about her year here?

Thanks for a super comment, Jarrod!

  13. Hello Mrs. Yollis' class. I am new to blogging myself and am hoping to get the students at my school interested in blogging with me.

The video you made and posted was terrific! I would like to show it to different classes so they can understand how to leave quality comments.

I am the French teacher and just started working as the teacher librarian at my school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I really enjoy checking in on your blog and finding out about the interesting things you do.

Do you have time at school to blog or do students leave comments when they are at home?

Thanks again for the great information.

    Ms Irwin

    @ Ms. Irwin,

Thanks for a wonderful comment! So glad you are thinking of blogging with the students. I think it opens up the classroom and provides so many interesting learning opportunities.

I'm glad you liked our video! Feel free to share it with your school.

You asked if we have time at school to blog or do students leave comments when they are at home?

The answer is both. We start our morning with reading a few new comments or checking out new posts. Throughout the day, students who finish their assignments can go to one of our two computers to leave comments. Every other week, we go to the computer lab. I encourage students to comment at least once from home during the week...many do.

Occasionally, I will require that a comment be submitted as grammar practice homework. They will have a week to get that done. If a student doesn't have access to a computer, they can write a comment on a piece of paper.

Good luck with your blogging and let us know if you need any help!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Y♥llis

  16. Dear Mrs Yollis,

Thanks for replying back to me. I like the way you spell Mum (Mom) in America.

I learnt that you need to say nice things to start with when commenting.

My Mum lived in Ogallala, NE. She enjoyed the snow and getting to see lots of America and how different it is to live there than in Australia.

I am really looking forward to your Quad Blogging experience. I had read about this idea from Mr. Mitchell and couldn't wait to see blogs that I knew so well taking part in it. I think that it's going to be a wonderful experience to learn about all these classes so well. I'll be watching and learning from your experience so I can hopefully do this at some point in the future!

    @ Jarrod,

Wow! You are a super blogger! I like how the two of us have started a conversation here! :-)

It's funny that you said how you like the way we say mom because I like the way you spell and say mum.

You mentioned that your mom/mum lived in Nebraska for a year. Nebraska is one of the 50 states here in America and is located in the Great Plains region. It is a big farming and ranching state. Did you mom live with friends or family there? Did she live on a farm in Nebraska?

No my Mum did not live on a farm but she lived in a house with a basement. She stayed with a host family.

I was wondering have you ever been to Disneyland, if so what was your favorite ride?

    @ Jarrod,

Thanks so much for your compliment about the way I sign my name, Mrs. Y♥llis. I make the ♥ by using a special kind of code called HTML code. If you look at the top of our blog, there is a page link called Learn HTML Code. At the bottom of that page, you will find the code to make all kinds of shapes! 2KM/2KJ has an HTML code link as well! Maybe you can add a little something special to your signature!

It sounds like your mom was an exchange student. Many houses in the midwest and east have basements. Homes in California generally do not.

Yes, I have been to Disneyland many times. I used to go when I was a little girl, and I have also gone with my little niece and nephew. My favorite ride is Space Mountain. I like it because it goes so fast! Usually that is not my thing, but that ride is so much fun!

Do you think you might be an exchange student when you grow up? What would be the pros and cons?

    Mrs. Y♥llis

  52. @ Leo,

Thank you for your quality comment. This is Panda, and I know a lot about writing quality comments. Check out our quality comment video, I give my best tips there! For instance, only use one exclamation mark. If you are really excited, use more words...not more exclamation marks! (Remember that line?) You, Leo, did not seem to be asleep when you wrote your comment! It's Panda-rrific!

We do have something in common. I love to eat bamboo dipped in chocolate! My favorite is Kinder chocolate. I got some recently from our guest blogger, Nonno! I sleep occasionally, but am needed quite often for videos and quality comments...like this one here.

Leo, do you have a special kind of chocolate that you prefer?

You asked what activities I enjoy. Of course, blogging is at the top of the list. I also enjoy pole vaulting. I use the tall bamboo shoots for vaulting. Unfortunately, I have to run quite a distance to vault...and that gets tiring...which makes me hungry...and I end up having to eat the pole before I vault. Vaulting is a summer sport here in the United States.

I have some questions for you:

Where do you sleep at night?
Besides chocolate, what else do you eat?
How old are you? Do you have any blogging tips for me?

    Sincerely,

Everyone in 2KM and 2KJ loved reading about your pole vaulting adventures. We couldn't stop laughing when you said you sometimes eat your bamboo pole! We weren't sure what pole vaulting was before we read your comment so we had to watch a video on You Tube.

My favourite type of chocolate is Cadbury Caramello. It is delicious!

Some other foods I like are honey on toast and fruit salad with yoghurt. I also really like milkshakes especially chocolate ones!

I love to sleep under Miss Jordan's or Mrs Morris's desk at night. It is very cosy and warm.

I am seven years old and my birthday is on April 7th.

My number one blogging tip at the momemt is always read over your writing and don't forget capital letters and full stops!

Hope to hear from you soon.

We are learning to blog. We watched your videos about blogging and commenting. It was much more fun to watch your videos than to have our teacher just tell us about blogging. Do you also blog at home?

    Sincerely,
Blake, AJ, Danielle, Lillian, and Kaitlyn

  59. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

Your videos are very informational. You taught us a lot about blogging. We learned to only put one exclamation mark at the end of an exciting sentence. It looks like your class worked very hard on the two videos because they were so good!

    Sincerely,
    Kyle, David, and Graham
