Introducing Collaboration Corner!

Mrs. Yollis' class has met many wonderful teachers and students through their educational blog.
Last year, they became good friends with Miss McGeady and her students from the  2KM blog in Australia.

Mrs. Yollis and her class were so excited when they made their new international friendship,
they sent a song to their new blogging buddies.

The two classes regularly read each other's blogs and have met via Skype.
Read about that experience here.

Recently, Miss McGeady and Mrs. Yollis have been collaborating on ways to

get the two classes to work together. They have created a new blog for their joint projects called

Collaboration Corner!
(Collaboration is a fancy word that means working together)

The Collaboration Corner blog will be a place for the two classes to collaborate on projects.

The first project is called What's For Lunch?

This fantastic project was first discovered on our new friend's blog, The Smarties, from Western Australia!

The What's for Lunch? project will begin soon!

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I love the idea to keep all lunches healthy. If it wasn't for the Smarties, we wouldn't have such a great idea! Today, I had breakfast for lunch! Can you believe they served breakfast for lunch at school? I had waffle sticks and hash brown patty.

    Sincerely,

    Ethan

  6. @ Lyudmila,

Thank for your good wishes for our success. It's fun how all of us have met and we're learning and sharing together. I love it!

    @ Miss McGeady,

We really loved our Skype conversation today. Even thought we ran into audio problems, it was a great example to everyone about how to problem solve. Others may have given up...but not the Yollis/2KM team!

Thanks for all your support! :-)

    @ Jahnard and Stafford,

Thanks for visiting our blog. I really enjoyed your gardening movie on Melville Intermediate Room 8. Are you the ones who tend the garden? We look forward to a visit from you again!

    @ Ethan,

I, too, think the idea of eating healthy foods is a great! You're right, without the Smarties, we wouldn't have known about it.

What kinds of healthy foods do you enjoy?

    From,
    Mrs. Yollis

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I am really excited to start Collaboration Corner with Miss McGeady.

Today when we had a Skype call with Miss McGeady and her class it was so fun because we got to meet her new class, but the bad part about that our sound went out.

    Your student,

    Nick

  8. @ Nick,

I'm excited to start our project on Collaboration Corner with Miss McGeady, too! Are you ready with your lunch story?

Even though things didn't go as planned with the Skype call audio, it was a success none the less. 2KM Skypes with Mrs. Yollis!

We showed that when something goes wrong...try to solve it. Miss McGeady used the word improvise to describe the experience. When you improvise you make something work with what you have. I'd say we did just that!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  9. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I enjoyed going outside and checking the weather because there were different temperatures in opposite locations.

That day there were cirrus clouds which are flat and are found in high in the sky. They're made out of crystal. Cirrus clouds sometimes mean that it is going to rain or snow the next day.

When we went on the school website, it said the wind was going 0 mph per hour even though there was a breeze.

    Sincerely,
    Sam

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

We think that Collaborating Corner is a great idea. It really helps bring kids from around the world together. Learning about different foods from other places is very fun and interesting. What do you like best about Collaborating Corner?

  11. @ Sam,

I really enjoyed the Internet Weather Project as well. We observed the clouds in the sky and determined that they were cirrus clouds. We learned that cirrus clouds can bring rain within a day, and today...it rained! It is fun to use clouds and current weather conditions to predict the weather!

@ Gal and her Shiraz (Gal's cousin from Israel),

Like the two of you, I love the idea of bringing children together for collaboration. I'm wondering if there are any Israeli foods that you would like to tell us about.

If you do, leave us a comment on Collaboration Corner. We love to hear about new healthy foods!

    From,
    Mrs. Yollis

  12. Dear Mrs Yollis and your students I just love the project you are doing on lunch boxes. It will be very interesting to see if you eat and like the same food as us here in Australia. What has been your favorite lunch box so far? When I went to school I used to have a hundreds and thousand dollar sandwhich which was filled with tiny bits of different coloured sweets as well as a frozen sunny boy which was a frozen block of coloured ice in a shape of a triangle and not to forget a packet of lollies. Cannot wait to hear and see what your got in your lunch boxes kind regards AA.

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

You asked us to tell about some Israeli foods. People in Israel come from many different countries and cultures. There are many kinds of foods and it is hard to pick out one specific food as Israeli. However there is one healthy snack invented in Israel, it is called Bamba and it is made of peanuts. The flavor is salty, the texture is soft and crunchy and we can bring some to class if you would like.

  18. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

I'd like to share a popular and healthy lunch item from our motherland country of South Korea. It is called "kim-bop." Rice is a staple food item in Korea. It is common to serve rice at breakfast, lunch and dinner in that country. Kim-bop is essentially rice, any kind of meats and vegetables wrapped in dried seaweed. It is then rolled up and cut into cylinder shapes. It is similar to California Rolls. Kim-bop is very nutritious and filling. It is also easy to make and easily transportable. Therefore, families like to take kim-bop to picnics, parks, sports games, school or to work. In America, kim-bop is also popular among Korean-American families. They can be home-made or you can buy them at almost any Korean supermarket or restaurant.

Thank you for letting me participate and share in eating healthy.

    Sincerely,

    Ethan's mom
