Internet Weather Day!

Mrs. Yollis' and Mrs. Ranney's classes joined a fabulous Internet Weather Project sponsored by Switlik Elementary School in New Jersey.

Internet Weather Day ~ February 23, 2010 on PhotoPeach

*      *      *      *      *

Participants were asked to check and record weather conditions at noon on
February 23, 2010. We checked to see if it was hot or cold, cloudy or clear, calm or windy, and wet or dry. The slide show that you viewed above shows how we did this.

*      *      *      *      *

We will send our results to Switlik Elementary School in New Jersey. Then they will post the results they receive from all the participants.

*      *      *      *      *

You can see that the participants are from all over the United States and the World.
We can't wait to find out about the weather in each of these places!

What did you enjoy about weather day?

What new weather facts did you learn?

What kind of weather do you enjoy most?

  1. Dear Mrs Yollis and Mrs Ranney and students how cool is your current project you all did about the weather. I found it very interesting and I started to compare our weather here in Australia Geelong and it appears that we have similar days like you only our seasons are different.Keep up the great work from AA.

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really liked Internet Weather Day. My favorite part about it was when we were outside. Also, my favorite part was when I got to hold the rain gauge, but too bad it didn't rain yesterday. Since there was cirrus clouds yesterday that meant it was going to snow or rain within a day, and it is raining today.

My favorite weather is snow because you get to have snow ball fights. What is your favorite weather, and what was your favorite part about Internet Weather Day?

    Your student,
    Nick

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I love how yesterday's weather day went. I loved it when we did the weather chart. Too bad it wasn't windy enough to see the ball float on the wind meter. At least it wasn't raining.

    Sincerely,

    Ethan

  4. @ AA (from Australia),

We love that you are not only visiting our blog, but you are taking the time to leave thoughtful comments. You are a real role model for parents.

Thanks for researching about the climate from the two regions. It does appear that we have similar climate, just at opposite times of the year.

    @ Nick,

I thought Internet Weather Day was great! Remember when we had that week of rain? Our gauge wasn't empty then!

My favorite part of weather day was...filling in the weather data on the chart with the red marker. It was interesting to think about where to place the marker.

My favorite kind of weather is sunny, warm summer weather. I like to be outside with the sun shining. Snow can be fun, but I don't like to get too cold. :-)

    @ Ethan,

Yes, Weather Day was fun! I agree that it was too bad we didn't get a reading on the wind meter. Let's get it out on the next windy day and watch that ball go! Those cirrus clouds were right, it rained today.

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  5. Dear Mrs.Yollis,

My favorite part of Internet Weather Day was when we learned about cirrus, stratus, and cumulus clouds. It was a good thing it didn't rain on Tuesday because we wouldn't be outside learning about clouds. My favorite weather is warm because if it rained or snowed, we woudn't be able to play outside.

  6. @ Carson (from Mrs. Ranney's class),

Thanks so much for visiting and leaving such a fantastic comment! Clouds are very interesting to me. We certainly identified the cirrus clouds correctly. Remember we learned that if you see cirrus clouds, rain could be on the way. Well, the rain arrived!

I'm with you about the warm weather. I like to get outside and play too!

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Yollis

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,

It is evident you are learning a great deal about weather. We had rain yesterday. Do any of you know how many inches we received?

My favorite weather is about 78 degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze. My least favorite weather is anything in excess of 100 degrees.

    Sincerely,

    Shannon

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class

We liked watching your internet Weather Day Video. We saw that the clouds were cirrus and you predicted that it may rain the next day. Did it rain?

  9. @ Mrs. Gurian,

Yes, we are really learning a lot about weather.

One thing we learned was that weather describes the conditions in outside air temperature at a certain place at a certain time. Climate is the weather conditions in an area in general or over a long period of time. Many students thought the words weather and climate were synonyms.

You mentioned you like "78 degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze" and I am with you!

Thank you for leaving a great comment for us!

    @ 3ST and Mrs. Toa,

I'm glad you enjoyed our Internet Weather Day video! Yes, we were correct about the cirrus clouds. Those clouds did bring rain!

    Thanks for the visit!

    Mrs. Yollis

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really like your blog! This post is one of my favorites.

My favorite weather is sunny with a little breeze, but not to hot. I do not like the rain at all! Also, my favorite season is spring because my family takes me for plenty of walks.

    What is your favorite weather?

First of all, welcome to our blog and thanks for taking the time to compose a comment!

You mentioned that your favorite kind of weather is sunny with a little breeze. I feel the same way! In the last 24 hours it has really poured! You must be so disappointed with the weather! Hopefully it will be sunny soon.

Thanks again and be sure to come back and bark out a comment to us!

    Your friend,
    Mrs. Yollis

P.S. How do you keep your paws on the guide keys when you are typing your comment? Also, are you using your dewclaw for the space bar?

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Just so you know, I was the one who typed my dog's comment. I bet my fish want to type a comment now!

My favorite weather is probably the same as Tahoe's, but I like the rain. Someday I hope to go swimming in the rain. Winter would be my favorite season because that is the season I was born in.

    Kendall

  14. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Jollene showed me your blog after I drank my water. It was freezing outside! When I came inside it was warm. I had to eat my dog food so I could get warm. It was cold when my owners left me outside, and it started to rain! I got wet and my owner didn't let me inside cause I was wet.

    Did you like the weather?

    Sincerely,
    Inthia

  15. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I wish I could do Internet Weather Day with you and Mrs. Ranney's class.

We had cirrus clouds that day, and I noticed that we had rain the next day because Ava told me that if you have cirrus clouds, the next day it will snow or rain. Of course, it will not snow. I did not like that day because I do not like rain.

  16. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I think your blog is very cool! This is the first time I have ever seen it.

Since I am always in a tank I didn't get to see the weather. My favorite weather is when it is raining hard.I really don't like the sun.

    Do you like the rain?

  17. @ Kate,

Yes, I like learning about the weather and participating in the Weather Day Project. You mentioned that your thermometer registered 95˚ F when you were in the sun. You'll want to always take the reading in the shade. In addition, you should keep your hand away from the red part because your body temperature (98.6˚ F) can raise the degrees as well.

    @ Kendall,

I figured you were typing for Tahoe. It's hard for dogs to get their claws on the guide keys. I'm glad he is a regular reader of our blog!

    @ Inthia (Jollene's dog),

I'm sorry that you got stuck out in the rain. We saw the cirrus clouds at school, so we knew that rain would be coming.

Yes, I enjoy following the weather.

    @ Cheato (Kendall's fish),

You are the first fish to visit and comment on our blog. Normally we only hear from mammals.

The climate in your tank is probably the same every day, no? Do you have seasons in the aquarium?

    Thanks for swimming by!

  18. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I've got to say that when it comes to writing posts you and Mrs. Ranny are the best at it.

You asked what my favorite weather is, it is probably sunny with a little breeze. What is your favorite weather? I'm also a fan of a little rain

I learned that cirrus clouds are spread apart clouds in the sky. When I see cirrus clouds I know it means that it is going to rain in the next day or two.

  20. Dear Wonderful Teacher,

We really enjoyed Internet Weather Day! We liked when we took the temperature with the thermometer. Kayla's thermometer read 71˚F. While Trent's thermometer read 64˚F. Trent's favorite weather is sunny without a cloud in the sky, and Kayla's favorite weather is when it snows! Internet Weather Day was so fun!

    Your students,
    Kayla and Trent :)

  21. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
It was really interesting reading about your weather day. It looks like we might get some rain tomorrow, as I have seen cirrus clouds all day today.
Yeah! I love a rainy day!

My name is Mr Lister and I'm an elementary school teacher from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. I'm wondering how you managed to connect with the other schools to collaborate on this topic? Perhaps you visit a website which connects classrooms across the world on collaborative projects. If you can help let me know christopher_lister@sd33.bc.ca

  24. Dear Wonderful Teacher,

Internet Weather Day was so fun! I was parters with Jaxon. Mrs. Ranny's class was with us too!

I remember that there was a little breeze, but the white ball in the Wind Meter did NOT move. That was really weird.

    Yours truly,
    Kayla
