Lines: Intersecting or Parallel?

In geometry, we are learning that lines can be parallel or they can intersect.

line

A line is a straight path extending in both directions with no endpoints.

Lines that never cross and are always the same distance apart are parallel.

Lines that cross are called intersecting.
Can you tell the difference?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I am surrounded by lines in my life! As I am typing this I am sitting next to a window that has intersecting lines forming window panes. Right outside I see our fence with parallel lines! Come to think of it the world is full of lines!

I was a little confused by one question in the video. It is about about the lines on the American Flag, I answered parallel, but it said the answer was intersecting. Could you clarify it for me?

  2. @ Hannah,

Thank you so much for a quality, 2-pointer! Your writing is getting better and better! :-)

Thanks you, too, for asking for clarification about the flag lines. I made a mistake. The red and white lines on the American flag are parallel. I went in and fixed it!

I see lines everywhere too! For instance, the vent on the wall has parallel lines. In addition, the towel in my kitchen has intersecting lines like on Adia's shirt.

    Thanks for a great comment!

  3. Dear Mrs Yollis,

I do agree with Hannah's great comment. We really are surrounded with geometry lines.

Great post. For when I have to park my car I parallel park.
Mind you I never really thought much about geometry but since this post I do look at my surrounding a bit differently.

  4. Hi Mrs Yollis,

I love your video about parrallel and intersecting lines. I didn't realise you could make quizzes with PhotoPeach. I'll have to use that idea next week when my class is learning about symmetry.

  6. @ AA,

This is Adia and Andrew. Thank you for your comment!

Every time you park, there are parallel lines even if they are crooked. Both of our parents have parked their car, parallel park.

We are looking forward to reading more of your quality comments!

    @ The Smarties,

    Thank you for your comment!

We both can't wait to see your quiz on lines of symmetry. Both of us know that we'll love it!

    Hope to comment soon!

    @ Millie,

    Thank you for your comment!

We also love blogging! It is so fun! We're curious, who's class are you in?

Thank you, everyone, for your comment!
