Happy Thanksgiving!

This is the time of year when families get together and celebrate Thanksgiving!
In class, we baked some yummy pumpkin bread, decorated it turkey-style, and wrote clever invitation to Thomas T. Turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving! 2010 on PhotoPeach

How did you like the bread?

Do you have any new word play ideas to include in an invitation to Thomas T. Turkey?

What are your holiday plans?

  2. Dear Mrs Yollis,

I really like your video! Your turkeys that you put your bread in were pretty cool! Did your bread turn up yummy at the end when you ate it? In Australia, we do not celebrate Thanksgiving day.

Although, I would like to celebrate Thanksgiving because it sounds very very fun! I really like to eat turkey and that's why I like Thanksgiving day.

Thanks so much for a nice comment on our blog. Yes, the the pumpkin bread was super yummy! In fact, I'm going to make more at my house! I am looking forward to eating turkey and mashed potatoes with stuffing this Thursday! :-)

@ Liv and Millie, (from 2KJ)

I'm glad you enjoyed our little slide show! You asked: who is Thomas T. Turkey? Thomas T. was the main character is a story we read. He was kind of a slow thinker and was surprised when he got so many invitations to Thanksgiving dinners. He got one from Fanny Fox, Henry Hawk, and Dr. Benjamin Bobcat. They all wanted to have Thomas for dinner. Thomas thought it was so nice of his new friends...but if you know anything about Thanksgiving...

Now that you know the story, you might want to watch the video again and read the lines we made up for our imaginary invitations. Which word play did you like the best?

My favorite one is: Boy will you be surprised when you see what we're having!

    Thanks for the great comments!

  4. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

Happy Thanksgiving day to you all!

Just loved the side show and as for the pumpkin bread it really did make me very hungry.
As a matter of fact I will have to make it a point of making some with BB as it looks soooo delicious. Would love to know
    why do you celebrate Thanksgiving.

As for my favourite word play it would have to be "Bring your family as it won't be the same without you".
    Now don't eat to much.

  9. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

What a wonderful slide show! It looks like you had a fabulous, fun-filled morning baking. Alexa and I also made pumpkin bread at home to share with our family for Thanksgiving. We added chocolate chips to our bread - it is quite delicious! The bread the class made was such a treat, as well.

I very much enjoyed reading the invitation to Thomas T. Turkey - how creative! It was joyous to watch Alexa's enthusiasm as she read the invitation out loud, humored by her hidden messages with select word choices. What a fabulous, entertaining, and educational project!

Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy, and peaceful Thanksgiving.

    Warmly,
    Lori (Alexa's mom)

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I loved the slideshow! I really enjoyed baking with my group, because we worked well together. We almost got to bake the second batch but my mom couldn't stay, she had to my sister's classroom to bake her pumpkin bread.

When I came home from school that day, the smell of pumpkin bread filled our house, it was wonderful! The bread was delicious!

I have had a very fun week so far. I have visited my grandparents, worked in my mom's store to earn money for charity and today, I will be going to Universal Studios.

On Thanksgiving day, we will relax in the morning and in the afternoon we will go our friends' house for dinner. I'm hoping that we can come home early enough so that we can have a family movie night!

I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving, I know I will. I have so much to be thankful for, my loving family, my cute dog Conner, my wonderful friends, my fabulous teacher and my awsome school!

    See you all next week.

    Warmly,
    Hannah

  11. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Happy Thanksgiving! Your video was great. It was a lot of fun making the pumpkin bread. My family loved it. For Thanksgiving my grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles are all coming to our house for the feast. My dad is a great cook and he will be making the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce and other delicious food.

Did you know that the first thanksgiving feast lasted for 3days!

    What are your thanksgiving plans?

    Miriam

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I remember when we made pumpkin bread last year. It was so fun and delicious!

I'm going to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving this year. Almost everyone from my mom's side of the family is going there.

Where are you going for Thanksgiving?

    Your former student,
    Kayla :D

P.S. Can you comment the recipe? I lost mine, and I really want to make it for my family.

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class

Your pumpkin bread looked great.I especially like how you dressed the bread up like a turkey.

We celebrate Thanksgiving here in Shanghai as we are an American School. We even have the day off school on Friday.

I am from New Zealand so I hadn't celebrated Thanksgiving until I came to Shanghai, but now it is one of my favorite holidays. I like that people can come together just with the purpose of sharing and being thankful for what they have.

An interesting thing that I noticed is that many of my American friends use Pumpkin to make sweet food such as bread or pie. In New Zealand, we would use pumpkin more as a savory food to go with roasted potatoes, or as a soup. Whichever way you use it, it's all yummy!

    Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I love the slideshow! I had a lot fun baking with the students.

The pumpkin bread was delicious! We were lucky enough to eat two loaves since Leila had the same fun project in her class.

Thoma's T. Turkey's invitation is hilarious. I am relieved to hear that he declined all of them!

As for our Thanksgiving plans, I am happy to report that my wonderful friend and neighbor has graciously invited us to celebrate with them. I am thankful that for the first time in years I won't have to cook (Gelson's is doing the honors) or clean up (well maybe a little)! All I have to do is bring a couple of pies along with my healthy appetite and wear some pants with elastic at the waist!

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    Warm regards,
    Marsha (Hannah's mom)

    Dear Mrs. yollis,

The slideshow is wonderful! It is especially enjoyable for me to watch as I am not able to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family this year.

I could almost taste the pumpkin bread as I read Hannah's comment about its incredible aroma in our house. Unfortunately I won't be able to have a piece, but as I read everyone's comments, it seems to be unanimous that the pumpkin bread is delicious.

Thank you for doing such a fun and memorable project with Hannah and her classmates. Most of all thank you for sharing it with those of us who could not be there.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    Sincerely,
    Michael (Hannah's)

    Dear Mrs. Yollis,

My mom and I watched the video together and I was able to convince her to try to make pumpkin bread together at home. I usually bake with my grandmother or aunt so this was the first time it was just with my Mom and siblings. We followed the recipe but made a few small modifications. Instead of using all white sugar we used some brown sugar. It was a lot of fun and the pumpkin bread came out really good. We were going to put chocalate chips but we did not have any at home. Maybe next time. :(

We had so much fun, that we went on to make cranberry sauce and stuffing. However the main dish, the turkey, we will leave to the our lead chef, Dad, to do.

I am Ben, Miriam's cousin, and I am really glad that you all had so much fun in class for Thanksgiving today. Miriam and her mom made their own pumpkin bread at home, and they even let me try some of it when I came over for Thanksgiving dinner. It was absoultely scrumptious.

  18. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
Happy Thankgiving. I like your word play ideas but I do not have any of my own. I did try to think of some.
I liked the outside part of the pumpkin bread, my papa ate in two seconds.
This holiday my cousin Amy from New York came, your Aunt from Las Vagas, and my Gramma who lives in the Redlands. We ate a big fat organic turkey.

  22. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I loved your Thanksgiving slide show. I had so much fun making pumpkin bread. All the students did a great job reading the instructions and taking turns. The bread was really yummy!

I have really enjoyed thanksgiving weekend. It was extra-special since we had a 95th birthday party for Andrew's great-grandfather. All of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were part of the festivities. There was a great slide show that included pictures of Poppi with all of the family.

How was your Thanksgiving and week off from school?

    Happy Holidays,

  24. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. The Thanksgiving video was great! I liked seeing all of my classmates collecting the ingredients! My favorite ingredient was the pumpkin. As we started to combine our ingredients in the bowl, we somehow made what looked like an island surrounded by polluted water. Then we poured the flour into the bowl which looked like snow falling onto the island!

Also, I liked making the wrapping for the pumpkin bread when it was all done.

Thank you to all the moms who helped with our pumpkin bread project!

    Warmly,

    Grace♥

By the way, Miss McGeady asked me to pass on a message to you in regards to our Skype session this morning/afternoon. She wanted you to know that our latitude is 38 degrees south. Similar to yours! Just a little extra info!
