Back to School Night! 2018

Normally, Mrs. Yollis' class looks like this.

Tonight, the classroom looked like this!

It was Back to School Night!
Parents came to hear about third grade!
Lots of information was shared about classroom expectations, curriculum, and resources.

The centerpiece of the classroom is the blog.  Mrs. Yollis had her good friend and blogging buddy, Mrs. Morris from Australia, Skype in and talk with the parents about the value of blogging. Meeting and learning from our new Australian friend was a highlight of the evening!

Educational blogging has so many benefits! Thank you, Mrs. Morris, for this blogging diagram.

To learn about blogging from a student perspective, watch this video Mrs. Yollis made with her third graders about why they love blogging.

Here is a wonderful video about supervising and guiding children on the web. It is a great video that really drives the point home. Thank you, Bill Genereux, for the fabulous movie.

What are you excited to learn about this year?

Parents, how is third grade different from when you were in school?

  1. Loved meeting you. Can’t wait to hear more stories about your dog, Buck. I think he’d get along well with our dog, Rusty! Kim and Matt (Kaia’s parents)

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

When I was in third grade we did not have computers. In fact, I did not learn to type until I was in high school. Additionally, when I was in third grade we did not have reading counts. Third grade has changed but it has become more interesting!

I only learned about blogging eight years ago, when Lily's oldest brother Aidan was in third grade. He had Mrs. Ranney and she also had a blog. You are all very lucky to have the blog and a chance to make friends around the world. I am looking forward to commenting and learning with all of you.

    All the best,
    Sybil (Lily's Mom)

@Mrs.Yollis and class, when I was in third grade, things were very different than they are today. The biggest difference and advantage for all of you is the access to technology. We didn't have any technological tools. One thing that is the same though are the books. I saw the Mrs. Yollis had a vast library of books. We read lots of books in third grade and so will all of you.

    From,

    Caroline

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,

I liked seeing the pictures of the parents in our seats!

This year I am most excited to learn multiplication. I am also extremely excited to get my Acer!

    See you all tomorrow!

  6. What a great idea to include a Skype chat, Mrs Yollis. The parents must have enjoyed the evening very much.

  7. Mrs. Yollis and Class,

Back to School Night was a lot of fun for me! It was wonderful to see Mrs. Morris in person because if my memory is correct, the last time I had a child in Mrs. Yollis' class, there were "technical difficulties" at Back to School Night and we couldn't chat with Mrs. Yollis' international friend!

Third grade is different in many ways today than when I was young. For one, we did not have email (electronic mail) back then for teachers and parents to communicate. Now, that is the way that Mrs. Yollis prefers that parents reach her. :) (She told us that at Back to School Night!)

Looking forward to a great year.

    Best,
    Lisa (Faith's Mom)
