This year, Mrs. Yollis opened up a green screen photo booth. Students took photos of their favorite project and put it in an "Open House" album on our ipad. At Open House, Mrs. Yollis took a family photo and then the students created a Do Ink photo! Families were able to be photographed inside a favorite project!

Here are the fun results!

Parents, how did you like your Open House?

What was your favorite?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
What a fantastic open house. Your classroom was so interactive and alive with a healthy mix of technology, good "old-fashion" art work, math and writing. We could feel the love and pride the children had for their work. We loved your green screen station and all the collaborative projects students teamed up to create.

    1. Dear Mindy (Abigail's mom) and family,

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Open House is one of my favorite times of the year. My students get to share with their family and friends all the learning that has occurred over the school year. I am so very proud of each and every one of them. :-)

This was the first year I did a green screen photo booth, and I will be making it an annual event. However, a line did form. As they say, experience is the best teacher. Next year, I'll have everyone come in and take the photo first. Then within the hour, students can create the green screen image. That Do Ink app is amazing!

Thanks for being a part of our learning community!

      Warmly,
      Mrs. Y♥llis

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
WOW! What an Open House! We were blown away by the amount of amazing writing, creativity, and most importantly, hard work and enthusiasm we saw from the students. Also, the way the class integrates technology into the curriculum is thrilling.

It is very hard to choose a favorite part, but I'd have to say mine was experiencing the Biography/Shadow Box projects and reading the poetry. The Biographies were intriguing because the subjects and shadow boxes were all so unique. I enjoyed the poetry because it allowed me to see a more pensive and emotional aspect of their learning.

I had a funny thought for the class. What kind of poem do you think your Biography person would write? I had a thought that maybe Steve Jobs would write a haiku like this:

    An Apple a Day
    Keeps the Doctor Away So
    Use A Macintosh!

    What do you think?

    Sincerely,
    Mrs. N.

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

My favorite part of Open House was doing the tour , and looking at all of my classmate's projects. For instance, what really caught my eye was Ivan the gorilla. My arm span is four and a half feet, which is one foot longer than Aaron's arm span! The green screen booth was awesome, therefore there was quite a wait to take my picture. Seeing all the movies with DoInk, Puppet Pals, and NatGeo, I was truly astonished with how amazing the films looked. Before I came to your room, I had shaved ice. I think the PFC hires the same company every year. The company's name is Chris' Italian Ice. The flavor I got was called "Da Bomb." It contained lemon, blue raspberry, and cherry. It was so good!

    Sincerely,
    Kostaki

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

The year passed by so fast! It feels like just yesterday I was walking into the classroom for the very first time.

My favorite part about open house was probably my gorilla report, for it was a fun way to practice writing informative text, and a good way to practice partner writing. I also appreciated the green screen booth, but there was a very long line.

Our open house for the 2015-2016 class was very enjoyable, and I can't wait until next year!

    Your proud student,
    Aar♥n

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I think this was the best open house ever! I had a great time showing my family all my work. My parents loved all the movies and the green screen. My dad had a big arm span, but the gorillas arm span with bigger. Overall, we had a excellent evening. I'm going to miss you and my class, yet I'm very excited about school next year. You have been wonderful Mrs. Yollis.

    Your appreciative student,
    Bailey

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I enjoyed displaying and discussing my work at Open House. I was so proud to show my parents my work, such as, my Badger Claws journal, alliteration, and my polygon person. There were as many as sixteen projects to have out, but my personal favorite thing to show was my gorilla report.

I wrote my report with Heloise, so many parts of my book and her book are alike. I enjoyed the gorilla report the most, because it involved one of my favorite things in the world, writing. Writing is a time where you can express yourself on a page. Writing this gorilla report let Heloise and me write about gorillas in our own words.

Another reason I think my report was the most fun project to show is because you got to learn more about your partner. When I worked with Heloise, I learned that her sister was on T.V. I also learned that Heloise is an excellent artist. I was delighted to get to work with Heloise, because we make a great team.

Although I think that the gorilla report was the most fun, I love every one of my projects because of how creative you make them all. Thank you for being a great teacher throughout the year, and helping me learn a multitude of new words, and thousands of math strategies, reading comprehensions, and how to write a quality blog comment.

Your truly thankful student (soon to be going to fourth grade),
    Maddie

  7. Dear Class, Father, Mother and Mrs Yollis,

The class open house was very fun. I liked that the parents got to learn and not just look at our work. For instance, we learned how to work a green screen and that movie making is not as hard as you would think. My mother and father loved it. We joked around a little because we are that type of family and get surprised a lot. Step 17 was my favorite thing to do. The compliments were so nice. Thank you for that step. Thank you also to my Mother and father for being the best family and to Mrs. Yollis for being the best teacher all year long.
The School year is almost over. When school is out I am looking forward to reading the Harry Potter books. I have seen all the movies but I have not read any of the books. My friend Lily already read the whole series and it sounds interesting. Have you read the Harry Potter books, and if so did you like them? My dad and I are going to read all the books then see all the movies and tell each other if we liked the book better or the movie. Lily and my father liked the book because they love adventures and mystery . Do you like books about adventures and mysteries? Have a nice rest of the year and a great summer.

    Love,
    Kate

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I had an extraordinary time at open house. It was fun taking the photo for the green screen. It was like my family was with Walt Disney.

My favorite project that we did is the Biography people. I like that because I got to learn more about how Walt Disney became famous and how he started the Walt Disney company.

I also liked when my parents saw how long were their arm spans compared to a gorillas. My mom's arm span was 7 feet, but my dad's arm span was as much as a gorillas which was eight feet.

I liked the dictionary movie, and I liked the alphabet movie. The alphabet movie was hilarious and the dictionary movie was very interesting and helpful.

Open house was a awesome day for me. I had so much fun taking my family on a tour around the classroom.

What did you like at open house?

    Love,
    Keya

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis,
Happy birthday Mrs. Yollis! I am so glad you were born! Some of the reasons I am glad is because you a great teacher and taught us blogging, multiplication, division, and last but not least fractions.

I love your blog and how you let other students have their own blogs. One of the student bloggers is me. You and I own the blog Journey of Life I really enjoy having that blog.

    Your loving student,
    Lily ♥

  11. Dear Mrs Yollis,

Happy birthday! You are the best teacher in the world. I really love all the projects you have planed. For example, I loved the Polygon people and the Horse poem. The polygon people were amazing because I got to see what I would look like covered in squares!

I also really enjoyed the fun activities and games. Some of my favorites were playing line tag and silent speed ball. Line tag is one of my favorites because I play it during recess and lunch with my best friends.

Clearly, you are the best teacher!

    Your student,
    Abby

  13. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I recently heard that it is your birthday! You are a huge inspiration and I hope that you keep teaching for many years to come.

I loved all the projects we did last year, such as the time we made a picture of ourselves using only square inches. I also appreciated the time that we made our origami stars.

Overall, I really enjoyed this year, and happy birthday!

    Your student,
    Aar♥n

  14. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Happy Birthday! You are the best teacher I have ever had! I really liked how you did the projects with us. For example, my favorite projects were the Charlotte's Web Collaborative Slides, the Polygon People, and the Gorilla Reports.

I also liked when the class learned to be quiet during Silence Speed ball. One outdoor activity I liked was Line tag. I only got tagged seven times during the whole year.

The last thing I liked was getting my own blog. My blog is called Magical Holidays. Thank you for teaching me about the world of blogging. I am really grateful for getting my own blog.

Thank you for being the best teacher ever!

    Love,
    Keya

  15. Dear Mrs.Yollis,

One reason I adore you as a teacher is, you set up multiple online programs for us. For example, you set up a blog for every student who wanted one, so we can share our greatest achievements in life. Another reason is, you set up a seesaw profile for each of us, so we can create and share art with the class via online. Another reason you were a great teacher is because, once in awhile we got to do something fun. For example, when we have fun friday we get a plethora of options to do. Another reason is, we have line tag every so often to get our bodies in a better position. Did you know you were born as my brother June 11? He will turn twenty on that day!

You are the best teacher ever,
    Michael
