A Thanksgiving Journey!

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Students learn about the history of Thanksgiving in school and sometimes there is a Thanksgiving presentation. Our reading buddies are in the Journey's program at our school. They are pre-kindergarten students; many are only four years old! Our pals invited us to help and watch their Thanksgiving Performance.

Before the show, we helped the young performers with their costumes. Four third graders worked as ushers who handed out programs to the parents in the audience. Ella assisted with the entrance. The Pilgrims, turkeys, and Wampanoags were excited to start their show.

Here they are lined up ready to begin!

Mrs. Cuevas introduced the presentation.
What a great pumpkin backdrop!

This little Pilgrim welcomed the crowd.

The audience enjoyed Thanksgiving fun facts, sensational seasonal  songs, and it ended with a poem of gratitude!

The young performers enhanced the singing with clever gestures. A gesture is a movement that expresses an idea.

Leave a message for your Journey's buddy.

Remember, they are just learning to read.
It is okay to leave very short sentences.
It is okay to start your sentences the same way.

What was your favorite part about the presentation?

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I am so excited about the cold weather coming our way. This week has already started getting cooler a bit and I can't wait for it to be Winter. My favorite part of cold weather is getting warm and cozy in my comfy bed and snuggling with my stuffed animals and pillows. Also, I love wearing warm, comfy clothes such as warm coats, UGG boots, and furry socks. I love all the pretty colors of the leaves and during the holidays I love to go see all the houses in my neighborhood decorated with lights.
Although, I do miss Summer and going to the beach, but I am still joyful about Fall and Winter. Another part that I adore is the holidays! The holidays are absolutely my favorite part of the cooler season because I GET PRESENTS! I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. What's your favorite part about Fall and Winter?

    Coldly,
    Kayla :]

      Dear Kayla,

I'm happy about the change of seasons, but not so much about the long, cold winter coming our way.

This morning I woke up and looked out my window and saw SNOW, lots and lots of it! It arrived last night while I was sleeping, and it was a big surprise, I must say.

This morning, we put on warm snow boots, scarves, hats, mittens, sweaters and heavy winter coats, and then we went outside. While we were outside, we shoveled some of the snow away from the sidewalk and brushed off the car so we can see out of the windshield. Brrrr, it was cold!

So, to answer your question, my favorite part of winter is looking at it from a window (while I am inside).

It is 25 degrees here today, and the sun is shining. What is the temperature there today?

      Sincerely,
      Stasia

  5. Dear Marcos,

You did a great job as a Pilgrim. I thought you were the loudest one singing. I enjoyed the performance. The best part was the song about playing like an Indian.

Today, my mom's third class performed a play about Thanksgiving called "The Turkeys Go On Strike". I wish I could have seen it.

Dear Rachel and super- cute buddies,

I loved your performance, AND you were cute as always. Rachel, you did a fantastic job as Thanksgiving day. I thought you all were awesome. Unfortunately, Arena will not be here tomorrow, SO I will only be here tomorrow. In class today we made pumpkin bread, SO you might see all of the pumpkin bread we made. If you don't that's okay. I am so exited that you are coming tomorrow. I saw it was your birthday on the Thanksgiving play and I would like to say happy late birthday.

What was your favorite part? Did you like your lines? Can you still remember your lines? Can you still remember my name?

  8. Dear Shayna,

Your performance was so cute! You tried so hard. I love how your class sang to the beat, danced and moved, spoke in the microphone, and you didn't have stage fright. It was a perfect performance. I bet you had a lot of fun, AND you enjoyed singing in front of your families and us. I don't have a favorite song, ALTHOUGH I liked the song Grinding Corn.

    Your buddy,
    Ruby
