Google Earth: Latitude & Longitude

We are in the middle of a global project called Our World, Our Numbers

This week the bloggers are looking at numbers as they relate to geography.

Check out our the Google Earth movie we made to share about latitude and longitude.

What is your exact location on the planet?

Which hemispheres are you located?

What's your latitude and longitude?

Advanced:  What are the the special lines of latitude like: the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn, the Arctic Circle, and the Antarctic Circle?

  1. Dear Mrs. Y♥llis & class,

I love your fantastic Latitude & Longitude video on Google Earth. You all remembered your parts very well. I wish I could have been there to help you make the video.

You asked if I could locate where I am on Google Earth. Yes, I can. I am 34 degrees north and 118 degrees west. I am located pretty much in the same spot as our school.

Can anyone tell me the latitude and longitude of Connecticut?

I miss all of you and hope to see you on Monday.

    Warmly,
    ♥Jenna♥

  2. Hi Mrs Yollis and class,

This is my first time commenting on your blog. I was just so impressed by your fantastic Google Earth movie- I've looked at google earth before but I never realised that you could make movies using it! Very cool.

My class of Grade 2s' has been learning about community this term, and we have looked at some maps, but mostly of our local area. The suburb our school is in has a longitude of 37.83 S, and a latitude of 145.14E. I wonder if you can work out the name of our suburb?

Keep up the good work. If you would like to visit our class blog we are at http://grade2mo.global2.vic.edu.au/

      Dear Mrs. Montgomery;

My dad and I looked up your location using your points of latitude & longitude. According to our research, you and your class are in an area called Blackburn, just east of Melbourne, Australia. If that's right, you are 7,940 miles away from our class in Los Angeles.

Nice to meet you. Have a "g'day."
