June 14 is Flag Day!

Today is the day we honor the America flag. Mrs. Ranney's class joined Mrs. Yollis', and together they learned how to formally fold our nation's Star Spangled Banner!

First, hold the flag parallel to the floor.

Fold the flag in half and then half again. Make sure the stars face up.

Starting at the striped end, begin folding a triangle.

Continue folding the triangles...

...until all you have left is one star spangled triangle.

Tuck in the end, and you have folded the American flag in a respectful manner.

Last Fourth of July, Mrs. Yollis and her family retired three American flags. Click here to watch the ceremony.

Please share some facts you learned about the flag.

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

How interesting that you had just talked to us earlier today about how the Boy Scouts were going to teach you how to properly fold a flag and here is a post about it already! It looks like you did a magnificent job.

Thank you so much for mystery skyping with us today. We had so much fun. It was great to see how well everyone in both classes worked as a team. I can tell that you're all great classmates. I hope I get a chance to still learn from you when you move on to fourth grade.

Have a wonderful summer. Thanks for a great year!

    Your friend,
    Mr. Avery

  2. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

I found this so very interesting for here in Australia we don't have a Flag Day.

It is wonderful that you all took the time to respect and honor your flag which repesents every thing about your country.
What really inpressed me was the way you folded your flag. I was amazed as I read that there is a correct of doing this.

    Thank you for sharing.
    From your bloggingpal,

  3. Aloha Mrs. Yollis and class,
You did a wonderful job of folding the flag. My husband was a Navy pilot for twenty years and retired aboard the Arizonal Memorial. The most special part of the ceremony was when he was presented with the flag flying over the Memorial that day.

Our flag is a symbol of our freedom and all that is good about us.
Mahalo for letting me be a part of your class this year. I am truly honored.
