Learn Spanish! ¡Aprender Español!

Recently Mrs. Yollis' class read "Pepita Talks Twice!"

Pepita, who can speak both English and Spanish, decides that she doesn't want to "speak twice" anymore. When her decision creates problems she hadn't thought of, Pepita realizes that sometimes it can be a good thing to understand two languages.

The story was even written in both English and Spanish,

so we began learning some Spanish words ourselves.

The video below, made by students in both Mrs. Ranney's and Mrs. Yollis' class, demonstrates many Spanish words we learned!

Just in case YouTube is blocked, here is a Vimeo version!

  1. Dear Senor Yollis,

I think putting the video from last year and publishing it here is a smart idea.

I think I know some Spanish words you taught me like:

    rojo-red
    verdes-green
    azul-blue
    rosado-pink

  2. Buenos dias Mrs Yollis and students,

    I love this post.

I do speak another language and it is Italian. I have to say that Spanish and Italian are very similar.

When I was younger I did attend a special language school where I learned how to read and write in Italian. Mind you I was far better with talking in Italian than reading and writing.

Gracias Mrs Yollis for this post.
    From your blogging buddy,
    AA.

    Hola Señora Yollis,

I liked the video of the kids speaking in Spanish. Will the kids do this again this year? Cuando yo estaba en el colegio en España, Don Nicolas me enseño Ingles. So it is ironic that Señora Yollis is teaching my kid Spanish.

    Gracias,

    John (el padre de Nick)

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I was thrilled to learn that Spanish was being introduced to the students! Living in an area in which Spanish is used frequently and offered as another language choice at most stores and ATMs, it is important for our children to have exposure to it.
I have enjoyed listening to Gracie speak Spanish to us at home!

    Warmly,

    Shari (Gracie's mom)

    Hola Maestra Yollis,

I'm Nick's sister and I loved the video about spanish. Me gusto el libro de Pepita Abla Dos Veces. I hope they learn more. When I read it last year, I was the one who had to read it to the class in Spanish. My mom taught me how to read and write at a very young age. It was easy and it took me little time to get it all.

  8. @ Sofi,

Thank you for leaving a comment on our blog in Spanish. A mi tambien me gusto el video y el libro Pepita Habla Dos Veces. I had to read a little Spanish in class too, but not too much. If you leave more comments I would give you the biggest hug you would ever get! :)

Mom taught me some Spanish when I was very young age also.

  9. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,
    Buenas Dias!
It is great you are learning a little Spanish! When I was in school we didn't start learning a forgein language until high school. I took spanish in high school and college. I even went to college in Guadalajara, Mexico for a semester. After I spent 3 months there I was fairly fluent in Spanish. But I started to forget it after awhile when I returned to the U.S. and I wasn't speaking it very much. My advice is to start learning it early and keep practicing it!
    Hasta Luego,
    Ben's mom

  10. I think it is great that your students are learning a new language. I studied spanish in high school and then spent a year and a half in Mexico City, living with Mexican families. Fue una esperieza muy bonita para mi y ma`s de cincunta an~os despues sigo hablando espan~ol y visitando los amigos que hize cuando era joven. The gift of a second language will last a lifetime.
