Learning From Other Bloggers!

Today,  note taking was taught!
When you take notes on a topic, you look for main headings and details to support those headings.
In addition, you only write down facts

Mrs. Yollis was going to use the text from the class reading book, but she noticed their Quad-Blogging buddies had a video about Allison's amphibians.
Mrs. Yollis adapted her note taking lesson to Mr. Salsich's student video!

First, we watched and listened.

Then we watched it again to listen for main headings.

Then we folded our paper into 4 equal parts. The top part was where we would take notes about All amphibians. The bottom boxes were for individual amphibians. We gathered many details about each amphibian!

What did you learn about note taking?

Have you ever used note taking before?

  1. Well I learned something, or thought about something that I would like to use with my classroom of students, I think that folding the piece of paper into four different squares is a really neat idea! Also I think that learning from other bloggers is SO important. When I was at school we always had to use text books to study about America and other far off places, I like being able to have our students talk to people in those places and get information quickly.

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis and students,

Note taking is so important, but it can be tricky at first. You have to be sure you don't write too much, especially not exactly what the book (or video) said, but you also have to write down enough to remember the main ideas.

Your method of noticing the main headings and then looking for key details is great! I love how you showed examples of the notes that students had taken, including sketches. (Sketches can be an important part of note taking in science.)

It is always fun to learn from fellow bloggers. We learn from you all the time! This will help us with note taking and your poetry readings will help us with our fluency practice.

    Your buddy,
    Mr. Salsich

p.s. I like how you adapted your lesson to incorporate our video. Your adaptations certainly help you thrive in the classroom habitat. :)
