By Shane F. and Matthew H.
During our unit on money, we learned about the value of each coin and each bill. Mrs. Yollis had links about money on her class website. One of the links was about the new dollar coins that are being minted.
The United States Mint is making new $1 coins. Each coin has a president on the obverse, or front, and the Statue of Liberty on the reverse. The program started in 2007 and will end in 2017. All of the presidents will be minted on a coin in the order in which they served.
The designers put information on the edge of the coins. Each coin has "E Pluribus Unum", "In God We Trust", the year of minting, and the mint mark where it was made.

Shane and Matthew, what a terrific story . I was very impressed on all the informative information you gave us about the new presidential coins. It is awesome that you discussed that all the coins state in God we trust and E plurbus unum.

Dear Shane and Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post about the new coins and exploring the hyperlinks you added to your blog. The link about the edge of the coin was interesting because I got to click and drag a close-up image of the side of a coin. I can't wait to get one and see one for myself.
I also enjoyed watching the slide show about how coins are minted. Making coins involves many interesting steps. Each slide had an animated view to help readers understand each step.
Thanks for sharing your learning!

ReplyDeleteWow, what a great paper you wrote on the new dollar coins. I really like all the details you put into it. I know how hard you both worked on this. I even learned things that I did not know. Keep up the good work.

Dear Shane and Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI really learned a lot from your blog. I had not even heard yet about the new dollar coin, so I appreciated the information you shared. I liked the link that let me see the edge of the coin. I think the edge is going to be smooth like a nickel, rather than having grooves like the quarter. The only time I have ever seen writing on the edge is on British coins, so this will be an exciting change for our money. Thanks for teaching me so many new things!

Shane and Matthew, this was very well written and informative. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
ReplyDeleteDear Shane and Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you added in hyperlinks. When I was in Washington, D.C., I went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. That's the place where dollar bills are made, not coins though.
Sincerely,
Jonah
Thank you for the information about the new coins. Please send a million new Presidential Dollar Coins to me as fast as you can. Thanks A Million !!! Carolyn
ReplyDeleteDear Shane and Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI am a 2nd grade teacher and decided to read your blog on the new Presidential Dollar Coins. In my classroom, we learn about money and have started looking at the new coins. I was very impressed with the information that you had in your blog and am excited to share it with my students. Just think, you are like teachers yourselves because the information you put in your blog is going to be shown to the students in my class! They will be learning from you!
Keep up the great work!

Dear Shane and Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI thought of both of you last night when I saw on the news that the US Mint is going to make a new penny, with a picture of President Lincoln's log cabin home on one side. This will be in limited production, but it looked really neat.
Because of this blog - I thought of you immediately and wondered if you already knew about it. If you get one of those pennies, make sure to show it to me.
