Paul told us about his experiences each time he skyped with other kids. We lived in a small town close to Philadelphia before and loved the snow there in winter. When we told Paul about it, he said that he wanted us to take him to visit Pennsylvania and D.C. next winer to see the white snow. The state of Pennsylvania carries a special meaning to me and Caleb's mom, since we first met each other in college in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, while we attended Bucknell University.

It was exciting to learn that you were discovering some of the many important historical facts about "the Keystone State," such as the Liberty Bell. The crack appeared during it's very first test ringing, and it had to be repaired at least two times by foundry workers named Pass and Stow before it was retired (last ringing was in honor of George Washington's birthday). Another interesting fact is that the state's name was spelled "Pensylvania" on the Bell, as it was in the original U.S. Constitution, before today's spelling was widely accepted.

Thank you for sharing your Skype experience with us, and I look forward to read more of your blogs!

Cheers,
Brian (Caleb's Dad)Caleb's Dadnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2633466533683944100.post-15133449767885098722010-04-22T18:16:28.300-07:002010-04-22T18:16:28.300-07:00Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I wanted to tell you and Ethan's mom what the symbols on our state flag stand for. The State Coat of Arms is the offical seal of the family of our founder, William Penn. It is also our State Seal. The eagle represents the USA. The ship represents trade. The plow and wheat stand for abundant harvests. Our state motto appears on the read banner - Virtue, Liberty, and Independence.

You have an awesome website! However what I found more interesting is how they have their own state dog.As I do not think we have a state dog here in Victoria but more of a national dog, which is called a blue/red heeler. These dogs are so Australian just like our Akrbra hats.Looking forward to your nexted post bye from down under AA.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2633466533683944100.post-38518768702036630102010-04-21T17:29:25.506-07:002010-04-21T17:29:25.506-07:00Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

What particularly caught my eye from the video was the flag of Pennsylvania. It is a beautiful flag. You can learn something about a state by it's flag. I'm curious as to what the different symbols on the flag of Pennsylvania means. Can anyone briefly explain what the meaning of the flag is?

Sincerely,

Ethan's momEthan's momnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2633466533683944100.post-75079286092188089532010-04-21T16:03:50.474-07:002010-04-21T16:03:50.474-07:00Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,
Thank you for sharin...Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

Thank you for sharing your Skype-ing experience with the class in Pennsylvania. Our family has a long time connection with the state: Jaxon's paternal grandparents and relatives grew up and many still live in the Philadelphia area. We have a family friend that lives there and her house is our favorite place to visit. Also, Jaxon's dad and brother LOVE the Pittsburgh Steelers!

I thought it was interesting that their state dog is the Great Dane. I never knew that states had state dogs. Do you know what the state dog of California is?

Thank you for the informative post.

Best,
Barbara
(Jaxon's mom)Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04522429205345398783noreply@blogger.com
