We are also a grade ...Dear Mrs. Yollis and Grade 3,
We are also a grade 3 class in Beijing learning about polygons. We like your video and it was very entertaining! We especially enjoyed the part when the circle wanted to be a polygon and we also liked your play on words when you said "President of the United Shapes"! We live in Beijing China and here is a picture of a famous building in our city (http://homesthetics.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/librarybeijing_national_stadium.jpg)

- it was built for the olympics and it's called the Birds Nest. Can you see any polygons here? We sure can. I like how you can fold it, and it will make two right isosceles triangles!

@ Nicole,

You are getting better and better at commenting! Well done! It seems as though everyone loves the square the best. It has to be the most popular tile in people's homes.

I also love the equilateral triangle. I like the equilateral triangle because it looks the same no matter which way you turn it!

Did you find any other polygons in your house? Tell us about them!

@ Mrs. Watanabe,

You are so funny! Thanks for the joke and for all the fabulous comments! We appreciate you!

@ Mrs. Kistler,

Thanks so much for your kind words about our math posts! So often, we think about culminating activities...but it's better to have projects along the way! Thank you, too, for all your support! Your class blog is taking off! Great!

@ Andrew,

I was very happy to see a new comment come in from you! The effort you put forth will really pay off both for your reading (which as we know is really taking off :-) and your writing skills! I'm proud of you!

You said, "One polygon in my house is a rectangular prism." Remember, polygons are flat, so which part of the rectangular prism are you talking about? (Hint: It starts with the letter f.)

Your message about mistakes in life is a good one!

Have a great weekend and keep the comments coming!

Your pal,
Mrs. Y♥llisMrs. Yollishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08553708205781596148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2633466533683944100.post-90284767654248086642011-02-20T16:21:14.778-08:002011-02-20T16:21:14.778-08:00Dear Mrs. Yollis,
My favorite polygon is a square...Dear Mrs. Yollis,

My favorite polygon is a square, because a square has four right angles. One polygon in my house is a rectangular prism. My window is a rectangular prism. What is your favorite polygon?

I also liked the out takes, or bloopers, that you included at the end of the movie. The out takes showed that you can make mistakes in your life.

From,
AndrewAndrewnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2633466533683944100.post-22972618466653008252011-02-19T08:03:43.967-08:002011-02-19T08:03:43.967-08:00Dear Mrs. Yollis class,

Now, my students are using real objects to test all of our geometry ideas. Last year, we only searched for objects as a culminating activity. Not this year!
