PuppetPals: The Coin Club!

Mrs. Yollis' third graders have been creating a movie about American coins to share with their blogging buddies over at the Our World, Our Numbers global project that started this week.

Here is our production called The Coin Club!
(It will be posted over on the Our World, Our Stories blog as well.)

The third graders used PuppetPals on an iPad. Photos were used as well as the American History characters that came with the $2.99 version. Mrs. Yollis us the Reflector app ($12.99) to mirror the PuppetPal movie on her laptop. Then she used Camtasia to film the final project and upload to YouTube.

It was a lot of steps and many failures occurred along the way. For example, the class learned that they needed to SAVE each scene before moving on when working in PuppetPals. Perseverance paid off! We hope you enjoy our hard work!

Have you ever struggled to create something?

What do you think of our coin creation?

  1. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I was George Washington. I did enjoy being in the Coin Club. The show was funny because we were in puppet pals and we were pretending to be presidents.

You asked if I struggled to create something. Yes, I have struggled when school started. I struggled to leave comments to get a blog, but I tried for about a month and then it worked by trying a new browser. I tried Firefox and now it works. I think the coin show was spectacular because it was funny and the class did it. We did not give up even though we messed up the first time. You are a remarkable teacher. You try your best for teaching and you do not give up. Did you think the coin show was funny?

    Sincerely,
    Parsa

    1. Dear Parsa,

I also struggled to leave comments in the beginning of school. But now i am comfortable with leaving comments.
I liked the way you were George Washington in the Coin Club Show. Great Job!

      Sincerely,
      Katelyn

  2. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Yes, I think the show was hilarious. I liked how you used things in the show that you got for something different in the classroom. I think it was so smart to use your horn. It was on a horn mode. I heard the voices of Jenna, Mallory, Bennett and Parsa. Is there anyone I missed? I agree with Parsa, you are a remarkable teacher! It is also neat that you used puppet pals. Why did you choose puppet pals?

Yes, I have struggled to do something. I could not get far in alpha smarting, and then I started to get past levels much faster. I think it is really good that there are solutions to problems if you take your time.

Do you know any facts about presidents?

    Sincerely,

    Bryce

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I saw your youtube video, and I thought it was really cool! :) I especially love the dog. :D I know that a few of the class blogs from around the world are coming together to create the "Our World, Our Numbers" project, but I don't really know exactly what is going on. Could you guys explain it to me?

  4. Dear Mrs. Yollis and the four presidents who talked about our coins,

I adore the video about American coins. It is a video that will or has been teaching kids around the world who didn't know about our coins. But there is a funny part about this video. The funny thing is that Buck kept interrupting every president because they kept on saying that $1.00 is also known as a buck, but it is the dollar kind of buck.

    Sincerely,
    Chloe

  6. Dear Mrs. Yollis' Class,

What an outstanding creation! It took a lot of creativity to write, create, and publish a story like this. You did a fantastic job and showed lots of knowledge of coins and American history. It's amazing how much you can learn from our money! I can't wait to see more of these stories! I just know you have more knowledge to share.

Bennett and his brothers have coin collections of the state quarters. It was fun collecting all 50 state coins over the months. Do any other students have coin collections?

    Warmly,
    Catherine

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I had a lot of fun making the movie. I was FDR in the movie. You asked if I had ever struggled with anything. Yes, Mrs Yollis, I struggled to write comments, but I did not give up. I tried until I got the hang of it. Now I am a very good typer. Commenting is my thing.

You also asked what I thought of the coin club. I thought the coin club was a very good movie. We did make some mistakes, but we all learned from those mistakes and our movie still came out fantastic.

    Your blogging student,
    Ryan

  8. Hi everyone.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful video! It is so creative and chock full of educational information. I just loved the word play with the word, "Buck." I thought that was so cute and clever. You all demonstrate just how fun learning can be. I am looking forward to seeing more of these.

    Warmly,
    Gayle

  9. Dear Mrs. Y♥llis,

I loved making the Coin Club show. I was Buck in the Coin Club. I thought it was funny when Buck yelled, "Did somebody say Buck?". Then, each of the presidents had a turn saying "Not that kind of Buck, the dollar kind" and then Buck would say "oh, so not me". I had lots of fun, even when we forgot to save the scenes. We also took our time.

You asked if I had trouble accomplishing something. Yes, I have had trouble accomplishing many things, so I will tell you one thing I had trouble with. When I was working on the computer and I was making a poem, I had lots of trouble because I put a picture on the poem, but the picture covered the words! I fixed it by starting all over.

I loved making the Coin Club Show, did you?

    Warmly,
    Jenna♥

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,

I really enjoyed watching the Coin Club video you made with Puppet Pals. I laughed every time Buck thought you were talking about him. I am glad you decided to make this video and I hope you will create more of them. What do you think would be the best advice to give to another class if they want to use Puppet Pals to make a video?

    Fondly,
    Mrs. Minicozzi

  11. Dear Mrs. Yollis and the third grade class,
Wow! Your Coin Club Show was terrific. You are all doing such exciting things with your blog.
I loved the use of the presidents in describing each coin.
What I wanted to know was if you have learned anything about the buffalo nickel and why that is no longer in production.
    Sincerely,
    Grace's mom

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I really adored the Coin Club Show. Did you?

I think that all the presidents that starred in the movie were great actresses. Did you think they were great actresses? If so, which one is your favorite?

    Sincerely,
    Chloe
