Thank You for the Edublog Awards!

Yesterday, Mrs. Yollis' Classroom Blog won an Edublog Award for
Best Class Blog!
We want to thank all the people who nominated us and for the people who helped us win! We appreciate your support!

We were thrilled to see that our special blogging buddies Mr. Salsich’s Class Blog earned fourth place and 2KM and 2KJ (Australia) came in fifth! Go blogging buddies!

We were equally happy to learn that Mrs. Yollis' Learn How to Comment won for Most Influential Post! Mrs. Yollis is passionate about teaching students how to compose quality comments, so this award was very dear to her .

Two former students, Miriam and Jaden, were shortlisted in the top five for Best Student Blog.   Everyone was happy for Jaden! Plus, our good friend  Jarrod from 2KM and 2KJ won third!

Our World, Our Stories was awarded Best Group Blog! The blog demonstrates the power and excitement of global collaboration. The teachers and their students each took a week to lead.  Weekly themes included:  local environment, food, recess activities, traditional songs, and stories.

One of the culminating activities for this blog was a group song.  Here is the final video of the group members joining together in song!

While learning how to patch videos together in iMovie, Mrs. Yollis tried different advanced tools. She experimented with inserting a screen and created a fun music video with her class.

This special day seems like an appropriate time to publish the song. It is called Make New Friends, which is something we love to do. The video demonstrates how Mrs. Yollis and her students have fun learning and creating together.

We hope you like our song!

Were were also very excited for some other special friends!

Mr. Avery (Massachusetts) and his class placed third in the category called
Best Use of Audio/Video/Podcast.

Mrs. Hembree (Seattle) and her students placed second in the category Best Librarian/Library.

  1. Dear Mrs Yollis and Grade 3
Congratulations on well-deserved wins for Best Class Blog, and for Most Influential Post, and also to past student Jaden. ☆ ☆
I'm thrilled that 'Our World, Our Stories' did so well too. The blog was truly a collaborative adventure.

The Edublog Awards are a great opportunity to showcase wonderful blogging work from around the world and while winning is nice, the awards also highlight the friendships and learning that can happen through blogging.

Have a lovely holiday break and we will see you next year.

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis and Class,
Congratulations on your very wonderful Edublog Awards! It must be quite the day of celebration there!
I really like the Make New Friends song sung in a round. I used to do that at summer camp when I was a child.
I have learned a lot from Mrs. Yollis myself. She has been my teacher and has helped me learn how to become a quality blogger. You are very lucky to be there in person with her!
I hope you have a wonderful break. Thank you so much for mentioning us in your blog post. It means the world to me! You are also included in our post.
    Happy Holidays!
    Mrs. Hembree

  5. Dear Mrs. Yollis and the third graders,

Congratulations for winning the award for Best Class Blog and the Most Influential Post! What an amazing accomplishment! It is very impressive that you won the Best Class Blog because there were many older class blogs nominated also. I remember last year, when a high school class blog won.

It is wonderful that the class learned how to sing in a round, especially with this song, Make New Friends. Whenever my Girl Scouts troop and I go to all-around-the-city gatherings, we make new friends, and at the end of every gathering, we sing the song. It's a wonderful song because it teaches you how to make new friends, but to keep the old friends as well. I love the moral.

Mrs. Yollis, it is marvelous that you tried advanced tools and experimented with inserting a screen. Experimenting tools and gadgets on computers are always very fun, and you know they always say,"You never know until you try," and now you know that when you want a specific advanced tool or screen, you know which button to press to be able to get that setting. It's always a smart thing, to try.

I do agree completely that it is an appropriate time to publish this song.

Here are some tips for new bloggers:

    1. Do not give any personal information. (your last name, city, state, address, etc.)

    2. Try to always keep on topic.

    3. Always copy and paste your comments so it doesn't go away. You do not want that to happen.

    4. Read your comment out loud so you can see if something you wrote doesn't make sense, or out of order.

    5. Go over and check your comment to make sure that there are no grammatical or spelling mistakes.

    6. Keep on topic on the post. For example, if someone posted a blog post on the seasons, you wouldn't want to start a totally different topic and write your experience at the beach.

    7. Don't write anything that will hurt someone's feelings.

    8. Have fun and a fantastic experience!

If you are reading this, congratulations also to Mr. Salsich and his class, 2KM and 2KJ, Miriam, Jaden, Jarrod, Mrs. Hembree, and Mr. Avery. You should be very proud and now you can brag to everyone about your accomplishments!

  6. @ Mrs Yollis and class,

Everyone in 2KM and 2KJ is so very proud of you. We cheered when we heard the name of our friends being awarded first place!

Mrs Yollis has taught me a lot about blogging. Some ideas I have got from Mrs Yollis include quality commenting, Family Blogging Month and earning student blogs.

@ Adia, what a comment! You are a very memorable student because you love learning and have a wonderful attitude. I know you care about Mrs Yollis and all your friends at your school (and around the world) very much.

  7. @Mrs. McKenzie,

Thank you for all the wonderful complements! I was pleasantly surprised when Mrs. Yollis sent out the email that said our class had won first place. I was so happy!

I am also really glad that Our World, Our Stories won first place for best group blog. I agree, it was a collaborative adventure.

The Edublog awards were a fun experience, it was fun to go home everyday and sit at the computer and vote. I wanted to support everyone, so some days I would vote for 2KM 2KJ , other days for Mr. Salsich, and of course most of the time for Mrs. Yollis! My mom and dad voted everyday also, of course they always voted for Mrs. Yollis!

I hope you have a great summer.

    Sincerely,
    Leila♥

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis' class,

Congratulations on your win for "Best Class Blog." With Mrs. Yollis' guidance and all of the wonderful comments from the students, you all deserved the win.

I wanted to tell you about a a funny thing that happened when Royce was speaking during the awards ceremony. Mrs. Yollis asked Royce to speak about the win for "Our World, Our Stories." I didn't realize that she had asked him to speak, so while Royce was talking, I interrupted him to ask him who he was talking to. Because it was a live audio feed, all of the other listeners heard me. Everyone thought it was so funny.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that you should check with a parent before you start talking or messaging with someone online, even if it's your teacher :)

    Sincerely,

    Tara (Royce's questioning mom)
