Open House: Everyone's Welcome!

Tonight is Open House! Everyone is proud to invite their parents and friends into our room to see what we've been learning!

First we set up the room with lots of signs and captions. Our room is like a giant diagram!
Students make captions for the parts of our kelp forest.
The online World Book was used to research facts.

"Please Do Not Touch" signs were made for our desert habitats. However, the spines say don't touch...if you know what that means!

A summary caption for our Ugandan Global Project was needed.

A 3-D sign was created for our cursive paragraphs written about our two favorite three-dimensional shapes.

Many students stayed in and helped get the room ready. We had a fun picnic lunch!

Finally, Mrs. Yollis' students are ready to shine!

What do you want to see?

Check out our amazing money $tories! Albert Einstein, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, and even the Wright Brothers visited some of these stores! Nick's Nike Store and Misha's Macbook Store have some great specials! Check out if each person got the correct change!

Help yourself to some scrumptious looking fractional sundaes!
Jaden's is a sundae of sixths!
3/6 (simplified 1/2) of Ryan's sundae is Terrific Tropical flavored! Yum!
Illeana says...eat some of my delicious eighths! 2/8 (simplified 1/4) of her sundae is Goopy Gum Balls!

They look better than they taste!

Enjoy a trip down Memory Lane as you peruse each student anthology. Grace's Graceful Gallery, Alexa's Awesome AlmanacAdia's Abundant Album are just a few to check out!

Walk by a giant saguaro cactus in the hot, arid desert! Beware of the cactus spines! Check out Grant's golden mole as it pushes sand away with its paws! Be careful of the caracal! It can jump up to ten feet as it grabs its prey!  The fat-tailed scorpion paralyzes its prey with it stinger, so keep your distance. If you're thristy, just give the water-holding frog a light squeeze! Refreshing!

Then enjoy a dip in the ocean. Swim through the kelp forest or dive to the trench zone! At the bottom, you'll discover Tucker's camouflaged barracuda. He's hard to see...he could be anywhere. Warning! Aaron's red eel is using color to warn people to keep away! Go and view Ben's triggerfish in the twilight zone. His disruptive coloration makes him hard to see.

Visit the 3-Dimension Favorites! They really pop! Read all about Kirsten's favorite shapes, the colorful cube and silly sphere!

Walk our Human Timeline that runs from the 1400's to the present!

Our Blog Wall has many projects to explore. Our biggest project is the Ugandan Global Project. It was a lot of fun, but most importantly, it helped our Ugandan friends who were in need.

We've got mail...from all over the world! Enjoy our post cards from: Australia, Russia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Shetland Island in Scotland, England, Wisconin, Washington, Michigan,  and Canada.

Be sure to say hello to Panda, our blog mascot!

We even have an incredible helium balloon on display. It's almost four months old!

Parents, please leave us a comment from our classroom!

  1. Dear Mrs Yollis and students,

Thank you for this open house blog post.
I just love how you all have set up your classroom with all the differents sections it looks great.
I bet it looks even better if I was standing right in your classroom with you all.

Well done everyone you all have down a great job. I am pretty sure you are all going to have great time opening up your classroom to your family and friends.

We do have them here in Austraila. As a matter of fact we also have open highschool nights where once you need to start high school you can go and have a look at the different high schools and see what they have got to offer and if you like the high school you enrol.

    From your blogging pal,
    AA.

  3. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I absolutely loved visiting your class for Open House. I really enjoyed seeing all of the projects spread out over the room. My favorite was the Biography projects. I could tell that all of your students worked very hard to create scenes for their biographies.

Thank you for all that you do to make third grade so special for Andrew and his classmates.

    All the best,
    Dana (Andrew's Mom)

  4. Mrs. Yollis,
It was wonderful seeing your classroom! I loved having Ryan show me his Money Story, Frozen Fraction and 3D Favorites. He made me guess the identities of the biography displays. I was only okay at it.

You have a terrific class and make learning fun! Thanks for being a great teacher!

    Love, Ryan's Mom

  5. Dear Mrs. Yolis,

The evening was stupendous. Getting ready was just the beginning. The real fun is when people actually see one of your masterpieces. I had a lot of fun at "the picnic". My Brother was there(he is in Kindergarden) my dad was there my mom wasn't, so I took photos for her.

    Warmly,
    ***Ileanna***

  7. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

Wow! I love all the pictures you took of the class' artwork! One thing that I really love is that the pictures you took were very clear.

Personally, My favorite thing at Open House was the ocean because it looked alive and actually felt like I was in the ocean, looking down at the fish.

At Open House, I also really liked the Humman Time Line. I thought it looked really cool because you got to see what year all of the people like Susan B. Anthony were born.

You also asked what friends I saw at Open House. I saw Alexa, Nicole, and Grace.

    It was really fun!

    Warmly,
    Alexa:)

  8. Dear Mrs. Yollis and students,

I was very disappointed that I wasn't able to go to open house. When I got home that night Ileanna gave me a photo tour of your room. Everything looked fantastic! I especially liked the ocean. It makes me look forward to summer.

    It's been a great year!
    Thank you Mrs. Yollis.

    Warmly,
    Ileanna's mom

  9. What an amazing classroom you all have! I especially like the Ice Cream Fractions - it looks like it would be a fun way to learn math and I certainly know that I learn best when I'm having fun. Do you find the same thing? We're a school down in New Zealand and plan on following your fabulous blog, we'd love it if you'd do the same please... we're just starting out so I bet you could all give us some really good feedback being so experienced!
    Thanks, Miss H and LH3

  10. Dear Mrs. Yollis and class,
I am so sorry I couldn't attend your open house! Your room looked incredible and a storehouse of learning!
Isn't it amazing what you have learned this year? It's fun to look back and reflect on everything that has happened during your year with Mrs. Yollis!
The photos you included on the post helped me feel like I was viewing the room with you and your families!
I hope you keep blogging this summer!
    From,
    Mrs. Hembree

  11. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I enjoyed Open House last Thursday! My mom, dad, and brother were present at Open House!

I think that my favorite project that I made was my disruptive coloration and false eye spotted fish. I spent a lot of time coloring and sculpting it.

Also, something else that I enjoyed making was the 3-D Favorites sign. I worked hard on that one too, with Miriam, and I was delighted when you said it was a masterpiece. I hope you can laminate it and use it for next year for Open House. That would be exciting, although, other people should get a chance to create a sign, too, not just us.

My mom thoroughly enjoyed the front of my binder, Adia's Abundant Album,, so she decided to look in it a little bit more. All in all, she loved it!

My dad was more into the desert animal that I studied. He loved the pictures and learned a little bit about the tarantula hawk wasp's physical and behavioral adaptations. My dad was surprised that the wasp is an invertebrate animal. (That means it doesn't have a backbone. How interesting!)

Stefan, of course, was obsessed with the Frozen Fractions because he loves ice cream. That is something he cannot resist! I had to obviously explain to him that you can't eat it, but even after my explanation, I think he still felt like eating it!

What was your favorite part of Open House?

    Warmly,
    Adia

  12. Dear Mrs. Yollis,

I had an amazing time at Open House! I enjoyed looking at all of our work, and spotting our art in the M.P.R Gallery!

A couple things that I am proud of in our classroom is The Ocean where I made a fish with disruptive coloration and false-eye spots, and I created the card with the title Warning. Another thing I am satisfied with is the project I did with Iman for The Desert, we did Grant’s Golden Mole. I also liked seeing all our wonderful sculptures on our Human Time-Line.

I was in the fourth grade classrooms getting as look of what I will do next year. One thing I am looking forward to is the Mission Project, it looks like a lot of fun!

I also liked visiting the second grade classrooms. I remember having an awesome time making the covered wagons that went with the book that we read, Josefina Story Quilt.

    Your student,
    Hannah
